Question Excessive Throttle Body Noise

I've had a high engine idle, around 1500, and very loud air noise for a while. After I took it in I was told I needed an intake manifold gasket.

Had a buddy check it out and confirm the needed gasket - he also tightened the bolts down as they were loose.

After the bolts were tightened, the engine now hovers at about 1100 when idling. That obviously helped the idle issue some but did nothing for the noise.

I thought for a while the noise was because of the K&N air filter kit I have. There is a loud sucking noise at the filter itself, but even with it removed there is a distinctly different, loud noise coming from the throttle body area. By the way it sounds, my guess is some type of air flow issue, missing parts, something stuck in an open position or along those lines....I don't know anything about throttle bodies and how they interact with the engine so my guess is a shot in the dark for sure, but that how it sounds anyway.

Any ideas as to what the issue could be? Or is this normal?

If the gasket wasn't replaced and you still have a leak, the solution is rather obvious.

do you by any chance have a throttle body spacer ??
from what i heard, they are next to useless & can be a source of noise

High fast idle sounds like a serious vacum leak. Start looking for cracked or broken hoses. I had a broken PCV valve hose that caused this on my truck. Couldn't see the crack because it was on the bottom back of the hose, so a normal inspection didn't catch it until I pulled it off.
Shooting a can of EFI or brake clean around the hoses might reveal it too.
Another cause if you don't have a TB spacer is a missing air cleaner to TB gasket It won't cause your high idle, but is very noisy.
Lastly since you have a FIPK, check to make sure a piece of the tube is not jammed in your throttle (butterfly) blades. Chunks have been known to break loose and cause sticking throttles

If you don't find any obvious leaks, it's time to hook up a scan tool and check the IAC counts. They're typically in the 20-40 range. Anything lower would indicate a vacuum leak and higher can indicate a sticking IAC valve or blockage in the passage. You may even want to remove the throttle body and IAC motor an clean out the passages and pintle on the IAC. Carbon buildup could be preventing the IAC from moving into position. It's also possible the IAC is dead and not moving at all. Fixed IAC counts would indicate this.

You stated intake manifold gasket . You did do the plenum gasket , correct ? The plate on the bottom of the manifold .
