Default Fabtech

I just picked up a Fabtech lift for my 2008 1500 2wd. I was curious if anyone knows if I can use my stock 17" steel wheels with the lift.

More than likely no. Most lifts call for wheels with less backspacing than stock wheels for A-arm clearance. And, it depends on the kit. It should say in the fine print what the specs for your wheels needs to be.

For example, the 2006 Ram 6" Kit (#K3014) says "Use 35x1250R17 tires w/ 17x8 wheels w/ 4 5/8” BS w/ minor trimming". I am not sure what they mean by "minor trimming". I believe your stock wheels are around 5-5.5" backspacing. Unless someone who's done the lift can verify it works, I'd say you should start hunting for a set of wheels.

Hey darkraven72. What kind of lift does fabtech make? I've got an 08 2wd and the only one I could find was a spindle lift from CST and airbagit. CST said I could use stock wheels but not get my tires to wide.

It's a 6" suspension lift. Pro Comp makes one too. http://www.ultimateautoaccessories.c...source=Froogle I think Rough Country has something. I have seen other stuff on eBay.

I am trying to figure what wheel/tire package to go for. Backspacing is what I am trying to figure out. I don't like the tires to stick way out there.

I was just wondering if I would be able to install the lift and drive it to the wheel shop. It's complicated. lol.

The kit you are talking about... I researched it on the net and it calls for wheels with 4 5/8" backspacing. I assume your factory wheels are 17x7 and should have about +25 offset. that's a 5" backspace. So I doubt you'll be driving to the wheel shop. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Here is an online calculator that helped me out a ton when searching for wheels. Keep that 4 5/8" figure in mind. Just play around with it... http://www.rimsntires.com/rt_specs.jsp

In adddition, and just to clarify, your goal is 4 5/8" or less. I would personally shoot for 4.25" or even 4".

Yeah, thanks. I guess I'll just order the wheels and tires online so I'll have them when I do the lift kit. Seems to be the cheaper option anyway.

It seems I will need some help with the back spacing. I'm thinking 18x9 wheels with 35's. I guess I'll end up with 4.5" backspacing. The pix I have seen make me think the 4.5" sticks out quite a bit. Something like 2" from the fender.

So that with some 2" fender flares should give me the look I want.

I think you've got a good idea. Go with at least a -12 offset, and you should be good. You could also call Fabtech and tell them what you have, they should be able to confirm for you. Definitely go with flares. Make sure to post pics!

I have the Fabtech lift on my truck as well. I have a 4x4 truck and it called for a backspacing of 4.5. I have aftermarket wheels with a backspacing of 4.8/4.9 (I forget haha). They worked! I got it installed by my shop I think they shaved the knuckle a bit.

You should try contacting Fabtech and ask them if you can use them with some modifications to the lift kit.

It might be better to buy new wheels anyways just to make the truck look better. If you do look try and get a negative offset wheel. That will bring the tires out away from the truck which gives an aggressive look to it.

Thanks for the info. I did email Fabtech and they stated that I could use whatever diameter, but they had only tested the kit with an 8" wide wheel. They said it requires 4.5" backspacing. Not sure if that is a CYA deal or what. I would like a little more that 4.5" backspacing. (MAybe 5"?) However I would hate to have the kit installed then have the wheels not fit right. I don't think I can return them.
