Default Is a 52mm too big for the 318?

Looking into buying a larger Throttle body, but deciding between the 52mm and the 50mm. I've heard the 52mm is more for the 5.9 while the 50mm is more for the 5.2. What do you guys think, 52mm too large for the 318?

What year is your truck? What size throttle body is on a stock 5.2?

It's been my experience that stock carburetors and throttle bodies are usually too small and can stand to be larger. It would be especially true if the intake manifold and heads were ported. Or at least the intake. I don't know what would be involved in that.

Where do you find the larger throttle bodies and what do they run? I have a mill at home with a boring bar. The idea of boring out the throttle body bores and putting in larger throttle plates has been simmering in the back of my mind. I always figure that whatever size they are, they can usually stand to be larger.

I believe the stock is about 46-47mm. I have the dodge 318 or 5.2. There is guy here in town, well known mechanic who owns a machine shop as well and he bores out throttle bodies as well as other modifications. He is selling a 50mm for 180 and 53mm for 220. He has modified it exactly the same as a Fastman throttle body only cheaper, has a one year warranty also i believe. Just wondering if the 53mm would be too large to run on an engine without an aftermarket cam and larger injectors?

And I actually found one on ebay, a 50mm for 100 bucks. Looks like quality work and has good reviews.

Those are some interesting looking pictures. I'll be curious to see how it works out for you.

It's easier to do one when you can see one that's been done. It's easier to copy it then work it out in your mind yourself. It looks like it wouldn't take much more and there wouldn't be any web at all in between the plates.

i have a 1974 step side with a 318 with an 1100 cfm carb hehe. but it would prolly act like that with the larger TB. if you give it about 3/4 gas it has tons of power but at full throttle its too much and pretty much falls on it's face
