Default Some mod questions

I have a 2002 1500 with the 360. I have a volant cai intake installed and have been looking to add a few other mods for a long time. Well now that gas prices are sky-rocketing with no signs of slowing down the horrible gas mileage of my 5.9 is really hurting my college kid budget wallet. I know I will never get great mileage out of this truck so I don't expect to see anywhere in the 16-20 mpg range, but I would be satisfied with 14 combined city/highway. So my question is if I get an exhaust and a chip and leave it on the economy setting and don't drive with a lead foot do you think this is possible? I just want to know if it is worth me spending 6-800 dollars on these mods. Also, what brand of exhaust and chip do you guys recommend? Any info is appreciated and thanks in advance!

Freeing up the exhaust a little and getting a programmer should help your mpgs a little. But remember these products are geared more towards performance so dont expect alot. I usually get around 13.8-14 combined before mods. After cat back MBRP (my suggestion for exhaust sounds better than flowmaster imho alot meaner but not im an ******* loud),Airraid MIT and superchips flashpaq on 87 octane performance I see a very noticable power gain but my mpgs only went up to about 14.3-14.5. So your answers yes and no. And for a programmer Id suggest a superchips or diablo bother are relativley idiot proof with pre loaded tunes but also provide some more advanced options if ya wanna tinker and are reputable companies. good luck let us know what ya choose

Really, if you wanted to see greater mpg gains I would start running it on 89 or 91 with the matching tune on a tuner. If you could keep your foot out of it, you'd probably see higher mpg gains. Just my thought.
