Default 2011 brake controller

Hi, I was told by my dealer that that I cannot add an aftermarket trailor brake controller to my truck. Plus it didn't come with the normally supplied pigtail either. Also they claimed I nor they can add a factory controller either at this time. It will interfere with other computerized brake systems on the truck. Dodge is supposed to come out with a kit in late january. Im just wondering if anybody else is having this issue. Thanks

That's a crock of BS. You most certainly can add an aftermarket unit but you may need to run the wiring yourself.

check out this info. I would imagine that 2011 is the same as 2010.

i appreciate the info. seems as though buying a new truck is like the healthcare bill, "just sell it and we will figure it out later" lol. i imagine i will just order the factory unit at this point along with the bezel, but would like to know for sure the dealer knows how to flash the puter to recognize it. so it shows up in the EVIC.

I am being told the same thing. That the plug to go to the brake control does not exist at this time for resale and that my after market unit would work if I wanted to hardwire it in which I don't.

They stated that the new controller would be out by spring to purchase. My main question is, How do they come equipped with them if it does not exist?

Either way not worth my time right now as I only need it in April so I will wait until then before I start pressing panic buttons.

Just look under the dash on the drivers side near the kick panel. There should be a taped up harness with a large plug and a small plug. If you have both plugs then you can connect directly to the oem controller. if you only have one plug, you will have to wait for the "kit" that was supposed to be available last fall.

the dealer gave me the impression that whatever i did at this point would have a conflict with the computer or other braking systems, such as BAS or ABS,. This truck has so much electronic stuff on it compared to my previous 2006 ram. i appreciate the feedback on this matter and will continue to post info if and when i get the situation resolved. thanks again, this place is great!!!!
