Default Transmission

I have been researching and I still cannot find the best way to take care of the transmission in my 2001 Dodge Ram Sport.
Does anyone know or have any links for the best way to prevent a transmission from failing/breaking and ways to protect it?

Thanks a lot

You mean besides driving it like an old lady on her way to church? Heat is the number one enemy of a transmission, so make sure you have a good cooler on it (not the one in the radiator). If you don't have an external cooler, get one. Also keep up with the fluid changes.

I believe the manual says, change the fluid every year.

Default Care & feeding of your tranny!

My wife & I have a 2001 1500 4X4 with a 5.9 Magnum. Soon after we got it I had ALL the fluids changed to a very good synthetic lube ... Transmission, both diffs & the transfer case. No problems since we've had it ... approx 4 years. Definitely not a cheap endeavour ... it was approx $700.00 .. but worth it!

Hope this helps ya ... Billy

The previous owner of mine had it rebuilt at 74k, 94k and now I've done it again with a complete reman'd tranny/torque converter with shift kit at 106k. This time it has AAMCO's 3yr/50k warranty to back it up for a while. At $2100 I might have paid a few hundred more, but the warranty alone offers a lot of peace of mind + annual tranny services are included for warranty period!

If you have it rebuilt - get it done right the first time. My tech said he could see where the previous place reused items that should have been replaced.
