Default Underhood LED light install

I installed these underhood lights but I don't have the switch installed yet. I might go to an electronic shop and get a ball-bearing or even a mercury switch to finish. Here is what I got:

Take off the "silencer pad" off the underside of the hood by using a removal tool for the clips. Drill (or poke) a hole for the wires to go through and feed them to the inside of the pad. Splice the wires together so that you have both pos + neg from the lights connected to a single pos + neg to go to your switch.

Only the pos should be connected to whatever switch you use, the negs should be connected directly. Locate the factory plug-in for the hood light and splice into that.

Use solder all the way and shrink-wrap tubes to cover connections.

Oops. You gonna need some new hood clips. Pretty generic, just take one in with you after you kill it.

This should easily be handled by this circuit I'm guessing, as it should be designed for even more load than this.

paint job was ok lol. Lots of spray foam sticking out from in between steel layers likely for less tear and silence.

Nice clean mod dude. What is that white square on the passenger side? Is that the factory hood light? Mine has the hood light on the drivers side and I have often thought of adding one on the other side. You balanced it out nicely

That white square is where a factory light would have gone. Basically I'm using the factory cable routing and power source.

I`ve given up with the idea of a mercury switch for now. I'm thinking of mounting this illuminated toggle switch at the location in the red oval. In this picture you can see the stock location of the factory underhood light connector. I am toying with using a quick connect plug like the one pictured with a 1in shrink tube to protect the wiring. This is a connector that I have added on my motorcycle for charging or accessory plug in.

That connector is called a large (13mm) Tamiya connector I believe.

Do you have the factory light? If so, there's a switch included in there (It's a nice robust design too unlike the tiny mercury switch I originally bought!). You'd just have to short the (2) contact points where the stock incandescent bulb normally sits and run your leads to the new lights you just installed.

I have been thinking of doing something like this as well. Another idea i had.. is to put 3 LED bars under each lip of the my bed so it illuminets the entire bed of my truck. I was thinking with going with a blue, to make the inside of the bed glow. Im also going to throw 3 blue neon lights on the under carriage for some ground effects.
