Default Truck cranks and cuts off in cold weather

Hey everybody. I have a 2001 ram 5.2 and i'm having some issues. one is the balljoints but thats for another day. here lately we've had some pretty cold weather in georgia and im trying to figure out why my truck won't stay running in the cold weather. below freezing, the truck will crank then cut right back off. it fires right back up after that. after i get going it'll still do it when i come to a stop.after driving for awhile after this happens, it sometimes will run great and sometimes it'll still cut off. today for instance its 45 degrees and rainy and the whole way home from work i was having issues though this morning not a single problem and the temp was the same. a few other things, the check engine light comes on during warmer weather when its running good. the code said its the charcoal canister and when it's cold and not staying cranked the check engine light is not on at all and the little light that says O/D OFF is lit up. when i'm already driving the tach will just die. it goes to about 200 for a sec and then cuts off completely. i'd rather not take it anywhere and try to fix the problem myself instead of paying out a ton of money. any help or suggestions would be great. thanks!

sounds like it might be a relay maybe your fuel pump and/or ignition relay is bad or faulty or a fuse.

If it was a relay then it would happen all the time? Not just when its cold?

you never know it could have something to do with the cold but the guage problem is probably a fuse my buddy baught a truck with the guages working but not right they fluctuated all the time, pretty much barelly worked and replaced a fuse and they were fine after that, hasnt had another problem with it.

Default cold and rainy

Ramblin,
Just a thought, last Sunday morning my wife when out to go to the grocery store and came back in and said the truck wont start, Sure enough all it would do was roll over, All I saw was $$$$ signs, Checked all fuses and relays in dash and under hood dealing with fuel pump and ignition all were good. So pulled#2 spark plug(easiest one to get to) plugged it in to the wire and laid it on the exhauste manifold to check for spark. Spark was weak and then noticed ignition coil was arcing between the coil and the coil post. A trip to NAPA and $35.00 later for a new coil fixed the problem.
Up here in the Northeast we deal with cold and damp weather a lot,
If your still having problems when the weather changes try looking under the hood after dark or in a dark environment and look for fireworks (arcing) between plugwires etc.
