Default Uconnect question

I'm going to double post this is the 2009 and 2010 forumz. Bad I know, but this is more of a general questions and I think it applies to both model years (if not also the 2011 but I didn't want to get carried away). Further it's not a specific electrical problem, more of a general query, so I didn't think the 4th Gen. forumz were the best place either.

I have a new android phone and I have been yearing after some of the functionality my wife has in her ford. I have the basic stereo in my ram (not the mygig with the big screen) and I do not have the Uconnect option installed.

Before I take the plunge and order up the bluetooth adapter, mic kit, etc. I wanted to ask some questions (that I don't trust the dealership to actually know the answers to).

I my wife's ford she can link via bluetooth and, download her phonebook, make hands free calls, and stream stereo audio via bluetooth through her head unit and listen over the vehichle speakers. I know that Uconnect allows the first two functions, what about the third? To be clear, I am aware of the line in jack on the front of the radio, but would like to do this wirelessly instead.

My question is, does anyone have the basic radio with Uconect and been able to stream audio (pandora, mp3's, etc) from their phone to the vehichle?

I don't believe the 3rd option is possible with the mygig/uconnect setup. You might have to get an aftermarket setup to get the functionality that you are looking for such as Parrot.

I checked out parrot, they seem to only produce 1 head unit at this time. It seems like a decent unit (and has the a2dp streaming capacity) but there are other aftermarket units that also do this and are less expensive. I may have to go aftermarket I just wanted to investigate the stock options first.

You can get a Parrot standalone bluetooth to go with your existing head unit. I got one for my wife. I got a harness so that I wouldn't have to hardwire it. Just plug the factory harness into the Parrot harness, and the Parrot harness into the back of the existing head unit. Then run the mic up the A pillar.

You you have the part/model number for that unit? I'll have to look at the parrot website again.

oh something else to know about... with the uconnect, i havent found a way to transfer phonebook over to the truck (i have the mygig touch without navigation). i had to manually enter the numbers in and fighting with the voice recognition software was a pain in the ass... my suggestion would be grab your phone everytime you want to call out and dial on it then let it come through truck.... also on my truck it only shows the incoming number (even for the few numbers i have saved) doesnt show who it is, so i generally have to look at the phone to see who's calling (im bad with numbers like that)

hope this helps

The MKi series would be what you are looking for.

Strafen, I'm able to dial from my phone's contacts by voice on the Uconnect. You might want to try pairing up your phone again.

You phone my not have the ability to transfer that type of data via bluetooth. Some older, or less expensive models have cheaper bluetooth chips that only support the older proticals.

Did you wire it up yourself? I assume there is a module that needs to be spliced in behind the head unit. How does the mic, controler, and screen wire up? The picture on the website make everything else seem wireless. That can't be right ... uses a lot of batteries that way.
