Default Uconnect question

I'm going to double post this is the 2009 and 2010 forumz. Bad I know, but this is more of a general questions and I think it applies to both model years (if not also the 2011 but I didn't want to get carried away). Further it's not a specific electrical problem, more of a general query, so I didn't think the 4th Gen. forumz were the best place either.

I have a new android phone and I have been yearing after some of the functionality my wife has in her ford. I have the basic stereo in my ram (not the mygig with the big screen) and I do not have the Uconnect option installed.

Before I take the plunge and order up the bluetooth adapter, mic kit, etc. I wanted to ask some questions (that I don't trust the dealership to actually know the answers to).

I my wife's ford she can link via bluetooth and, download her phonebook, make hands free calls, and stream stereo audio via bluetooth through her head unit and listen over the vehichle speakers. I know that Uconnect allows the first two functions, what about the third? To be clear, I am aware of the line in jack on the front of the radio, but would like to do this wirelessly instead.

My question is, does anyone have the basic radio with Uconect and been able to stream audio (pandora, mp3's, etc) from their phone to the vehichle?

Thanks. I appreciate it. If you use any other music apps (pandora, slacker, tune-in radio, etc) those should work the same. From what I have heard it sounds like Uconnect is a no go, but I would like to hear from somome whom has tried.

I cannot speak for the droid , since I own an iphone. But I had tried playing pandora / ipod mode and it did not pick it up through the speakers.

As far as I know, the only bluetooth connectivity is through the uconnect phone mode.

Thanks for the info. I'm fairly certain (though not 100%) that iPhone and andriod use the same bluetooth profile for streaming. If your iPhone wont do it, it is unlikely android will.

I have a 2010 SLT with the Uconnect and 2 Android phones. I can say that when I pair either of my android phones that it says, "Connected to Phone Device". When I connect to my headsets that support streaming music it says, "Connected to Phone and Audio Device". I read in a 2011 flier while waiting for some work on mine that the new 2011 radios support streaming music. Doesn't help us right away but may mean that it's an easy (although expensive) upgrade.

Hope this helps

Yes, the 2011 can use the stereo as a "headset" and play music. My 2010 basic radio with U-connect cannot do that. I did notice however that I can get on a phonecall with my andriod and then play music using Gtunes application (which doesn't care if you are on call) and the music plays right through the bluetooth connection.

This is not too practical considering you can only do it while on an active call. Perhaps there is some kind of hack possible here.

I also have not been able to locate my Ipod connection on the back of this Uconnect on my RES radio unit. Anyone know how hard it is to look at the back of your radio unit?

first look in your Upper glove compartment for the plug in

if it is not in there, push inwards on the sides of the Lower glove box & remove it. then Look at the bottom of the Upper glove box & remove the 1 screw, then pull out your upper glove box.
a cable may be tucked away near the back of the radio, if not, take an oversized dentist type mirror & a small flashlight, you should be able to see the back of the radio
