Default Dangerous ABS

There was a real heavy snowfall here yesterday, with cold temperatures. The ABS was going nuts, once it comes on it increases the stopping distance huge! Almost rolled through a stop light. Is there any way to toggle or adjust the ABS, but still keep the traction control?

Nope. If the ABS took that long to stop you, then the roads must have been really bad.

Just imagine where you would have ended up had you not had ABS.

Trust me, without ABS you would of slid faster and definitely cleared the stop light. Also if you are running stock tires they are not the best on ice.

Just keep it slow and remember to allow a larger interval for stopping and never feather your breaks with a ABS system, just press and hold and the ABS will feather for you.

geek82, I know what you mean, I also find it doesn't take much for the ABS on this truck to kick in. Of course I am comparing it to my 04 Ram, which didn't have ABS and our 07 Caliber with snow tires. I think the tires have a lot to do with it. The wranglers on the Rams and the WORST all round for everything, can't wait to get rid of them!

I can confirm that the stock tires are very bad on ice. This week we had an ice storm blow in and I had a couple of pucker factor moments. It was so bad that I replaced the tires with Firestone Destination A/Ts (that same day) and all those problems went away.

Short story is that your ABS did the best it could with the traction it had. If you want to stop (or go for that matter) you should look at different tires.

Hope that helps.

we had an ice storm the other week, and i tried to slow / stop to get off the highway at 40 mph.... and we slid in a perfect straight line with the abs on going crazy for over 200 meters ! *in terrifying.
and i have new winter tyres on it

just after i managed to get off the highway there was a 20 vehicle pile up about a mile behind me.

I agree about the tires. Can't wait for a new pair of shoes for the truck!

It's the tires, the stock GY's are horrible.
