Default How Many Miles Can I Expect To Get Out Of This Ram ?

Hi folks.
My brother-in-law recently died, and by default I sort of inherited his 1996 Dodge Ram pick-up. My wife (his sister) wanted me to have it instead of someone else getting it because she said she knows I'll take care of it.

He bought the truck brand new. It's a 1996 Club Cab Laramie SLT 1500, 5.9L Magnum engine, automatic transmission, two tone paint...Emerald Green Pearl Coat and Light Driftwood Satin Glow on the bottom.
He meticulously maintained this truck during its life. He was one of those guys that had all of his service receipts saved...three envelopes of service maintenance receipts, along with the original window sticker. This guy loved his truck.
In addition to regular maintenance, he had a few things done over the past couple of years such as new ball joints, a dual exhaust system put on it, etc., but no major work has been done to it.
It sat in his garage for 5 weeks after he died, and then easily started up with one turn of the key. It runs great and is in good condition.

The only thing is, it has 135,000 miles on it. I've never owned a vehicle with 100,000 miles. I usually trade them in well before that.
As I said, I took the truck because my wife knows I'll continue to take care of it and she knows how her brother cared for this truck since it was new.

135,000 miles seems like a LOT of miles. Given the fact that this truck has been well maintained since it was new, how many miles do you think a Dodge Ram is good for until major problems might start to develop?

Thanks,
-Ward

Glad you joined us Ward and welcome to the Z for Rams from Baltimore . If you could go to the top of the page to the User Cp and complete your profile that would be great . Helps us see what you have when your posting a question or comment . I would venture to say you should get at least another 100,000 miles out of it , if it's been taken care of as well as you've stated . Do you have any pictures of your truck ? You will find this site is full of a lot of talented people . So if theres any question that you need answered , just shoot away . Talk to ya soon . Tom

Hello and welcome aboard the ForumZ. Great to have you! It sounds as though the truck has had it's preventative maintainance upkept, therefore, the rule of thumb is it should last a good while. No promises as none of us are born with crystal balls. Best of luck and can't wait to see pics of that beast!

Another 100,000 miles? That would be great, and way more than I was expecting.

Welcome to the forum. I agree, this truck should last another 100K easily without significant repair. The only real weak area on this truck is the front suspension track bar. Some would say the transmissions are suspect but most failures are attributed to adding Dexron transmission fluid, which is not the correct fluid, rather than any design flaw or material failure.

Sounds like a great truck!

Hey there Ward and welcome to the forum, glad to have you join us! Sorry to hear about the death in the family, but very nice looking truck you have there! I agree with what's been said, so long as you continue that meticulous maintenance, there's no reason you can't get another 100K out of it! Lots of great people and info here, so any help you need, feel free to ask and I hope you enjoy the site!

Welcome to the forum. That truck should last you a while yet as you will likely take good care of it.
