Default Alternative to a tonneau cover??

I like not having a tonneau cover. I like having the bed of the truck exposed however, I need something as an alternative to store things like suitcases, luggage, etc otherwise the Mrs. won't let me take the Ram on trips.

I know I can have a tonneau cover that rolls up but, I don't want all the bars and equipment on the bed of the truck.

Any ideas?

thanks!

A tarp? Not too many options. I guess find the cover that comes off the easiest and can be stored away when you don't need it. The Backflip looks pretty good.

Depending on what you're willing to spend, I've got three basic options to suggest that I've been exploring myself.

My top option is the "truck bag." If it works like they advertise, this is the way to go: http://www.tufftruckbag.com/Black-Wa...g-p/ttbblk.htm

Second option is using a waterproof luggage carrier and tying it down in the bed. Here are some samples of what I'm considering:

http://www.amazon.com/Keeper-07203-W...6942607&sr=1-1

http://www.amazon.com/Highland-10391...6942607&sr=1-8

Finally, back in the day before I had a family, I threw all my gear into 55 gallon trash bags, tied up up, tucked in the front of the bed and never had anything get wet. Throw a roll of those in one of the many RAM storage bins and you're always ready. I keep a small tarp tucked in there as well, just for good measure...

Let us know what you choose and how it works...

I used my toolbox on my last truck as a trunk most of the time. I have a crew cab now, so to save the relatively small amount of bed space I will be buying one of the tri-fold covers linked above ^.

If you go with the ones in the posts above you dont have all the crap your talkin about. Usually the folding ones sit on top of the bed rails. There are not any bars or whatever your talking about.

I have a hard fiberglass cover on my truck and yes there are bars lining the bed rails. I dont mind since the hard ones usually stay closed all the time. It isn't bad or anything for the truck since they just sit there to reinforce the cover.

BackFlip G2 or F1 are good choices
http://www.bakfliptonneaucover.com/
some models fit inside so that you can still use the stake pockets

your items will be secure, as long as you have a locking tailgate, also get the tailgate seal, it helps to keep water & dirt out

look at a bedrug too, it works with tonneaus & truck caps
