Default I have no clue!!!!!

Ok I have a 2001 Ram 1500 5.9. Although my engine is not the issue I have a very strange issue with the transmission that I cant even the local repair shops to tell me what it is.

Here it is: When I start the truck when its cold the transmission is very sluggish and doesnt wanna go almost like its starting in 2nd gear. so when i drive to my destination I have to give it time to get up to speed if I put the throttle all the way down it wont exceed 2500 rpm and im just wasting gas. when the trans warms up and i shut the truck off and start it again I have 1st gear again it wants to go go go!!! only problem is it doesnt wanna shift till 3500 rpm or more. A couple of times i had to pull over and shut it off cuz it would shift at all. Eventually If I turn it off and restart it enough itll go back into 2nd again (which i try to avoid cua turning on and off can be bad). I have had 2 repair shops tell to change the fluid which i have already done before calling either of them. 1 shop tells me i need a new govener but cant explain why it switches back each time I start it up. they want $100 to look at it nonrefundable cuz they think its a waste of time. I think its electrical but have no idea where to start.

If any one has any advice or has had this problem in the past i would really like to know what it is and how to fix it!!!

Mine was doing something similar - ran good cold but when the fluid was hot it was swishing past seals causing it to hold the gears and would have to manually shift them with the column lever.

Check the fluid when warmed up - are there any bubbles in the fluid? If so, you will have faulty seals and will need to replace them. Basically an overhaul kit. That's what happened with mine then they found the 1-2 internal clutches were toast!

Solenoids, switches and sensors are not replaced during a rebuild unless diagnostics reveal a problem before the build.

It sounds to me like you have a problem that is causing the trans to go into limp-in mode (staying in second gear all the time). Have you had the TCM scanned for codes?
