Angry No Odometer

Hey guys, thanks for reading. I recently picked up a used 1999 ram with a 5.9l 2wd. This is my first Dodge. So far I am pleased with just a few unpleasant exceptions:
-About one hundred miles after I purchased the truck, the speedometer, odometer stopped working. Also my ABS and check engine lights came on. This affected nothing mechanically, it ran sound. After some research I learned that this could be contributed to a faulty speed sensor. So I replaced the one on the transmission and on the differential. I discon'd the battery for about ten minutes, and nothing changed. Let it sit overnight and the next morning it was all well. Ran for two days without issue. This evening it struck again. Abs light is on and the speedo and odo are not functioning. Anyone had this issue? Any help would be greatly appreciated, I'm kinda bummed with these issues especially since I just picked up this truck last week. Thanks!

Hi, just got back from Autozone, and the code p0500 popped up. Vehicle speed sensor, this is the same one that came up last week before i replaced it. Since its located on the diff, might very dirty gear oil cause it to mal? I went ahead and got a new gasket and some oil, gonna change it tonight see if that helps.

I've had my used 1998 1500 for about a year and that was the first things I fixed. Rear diff. speed sensor replacement, $35 and driveway elbow grease. MIL went off, ABS light went off, speedometer & odometer started working and the truck stopped stalling out at stop signs. Seems to be very common problem.

It could be a wiring, PCM or ABS problem but impossible to say without running the diagnostics on the systems.

i just got mine fixed today. something came loose in the fuse box under the hood which caused some over heated and burn a wire cause my gauges not to work. might not be a problem for you but worth taking a look at.
