Default Ram 5.9 consuming LOTS of oil with NO SMOKE

I have a 1998 ram 5.9 4x4 that started using about a quart of oil every 1000 miles. It started suddenly, so its not something that has been getting worse over time. The engine has great compression and has brand new valve guides and seals. I know its not leaking for sure, it has a new rear main seal, oil pan gasket, crankcase cover gasket, and valve cover gaskets. and like i said it doesnt smoke at all. I replaced the pcv valve tonight, so im hoping that may help. Other than that im completely stumped so hopefully yall can help me out. Thanks!

You have a blown intake plenum gasket . The intake manifold needs to be pulled and on the bottom of the intake there is a plate that needs to be resealed . Heres a link that may help ya out if you wish to do the repairs yourself . http://www.ramforumz.com/showthread.php?t=47741

Remove the air cleaner assembly from your throttle body . With the engine off , open up the throttle and look into the intake manifold with a flashlight . Look all the way to the floor of the intake . See if you can see oil present . I can almost guarantee you 100 % that the intake plenum is blown . It happens to all these style intake manifolds . My was replaced at 34,000 miles . Since then I've put 100,000 miles on it with no more issues .

I got the truck 3 months ago with 190,000 miles so i have no idea whats been done to it before me. My mechanic checked it out and didnt mention anything about it. Guess ill take a look tomorrow, this thing is turning into a real money pit haha.

Is your coolant dark looking? If you dig into the intake yourself it will cost you around $25. If you have someone else do it, it will run around $250. I just did my gaskets yesterday. Not to hard to do if you have the time.

Well I took a look inside my intake manifold and its pretty nasty in there. Theres some black stuff caked on the bottom and the whole thing is covered in oil. Its not pooling up so hopefully its not too bad. Yall really know what your talking about here! Is the Hughes kit a good way to go? does it come with everything I need? Thanks guys!

I wouldn't waste the money . I've seen no real improvement with them .
