Default 2011 Dash Speaker Upgrade

ok, along with upgrading my whole stock system , i want to upgrade my dash speakers. First, anyone have any pics on how to ge tto them,:"? Do the grills just pop off? Any help on that would be great.

Next question, I will be adding a 4 channel JL audio amp, which will drive the front and rear door speakers. I will be running all new wire, and essential leaving all the factory wiring intact, but not used. For the dash speakers I was thinking about running new wire from them, to the front outputs directly from the head unit.
Will that work? and will the fader still work, if those are hooked to the HU front channel and I have front AMP channel hooked up?

Thanks again

You are replacing the headunit also? If so, then yeah, you can run the das off of the front channels of the headunit, and use the amp for the 4 doors.

yes, head unit is being replaced also.
Thanks for the info dodgeman, would you happen to know, do the grilles for the dash speakers just pop off to gain access to the speakers themselves? I have some JL c350 i am going to replace them with.

thanks again

Hey Kozzy, Can I ask how this upgrade went. I ahave already replaced the head unit and I am going to be replaceing everythign else with new speakers and a amp. I see nothing in my 2011 that looks like dash speakers. I only see openings for defroster type spots. Are the speakers "hidden" under the dash without grill openings.

Plus, if I use the new amp, I would assume I would be turning off the internal amp for the head unit. Which means the dask speakers (if they are actually there) could not be run off the normal outputs.

Now that I think about it, when I installed my head unit 3 weeks ago, there were no wires for dash speakers, only L/R for front and rear. If the dash speakers exist, are they powered off the front door speakers or something.

Anyone have any ideas about all that. I would really appreciate any input. These "dash" speakers are really throwing me off.

On my installation I ran 2 new wires from the dash speakers to the front output wires of the head unit, and used my Alpine PDX-5 to power all 4 doors speakers and a 10' sub. Everything worked fine. The grills inserts just pop out I used a flat head screw drive to do it but be careful not to damage it. Good Luck.

Hey, thanks for the info and the pictures. I thought those slots were just heater vents or something. Thanks again!

Now I know what to do!

RAMTX, I did still have one question. I know you said you used the 2 front output wires for your dash speakers, but any idea how they normally recieve their signal, if you have not changed things from stock?

Are the dash speakers normally slaved of the front speakers anyway, because I did not have any front dash speaker leads in the normal truck wiring harness (at least I did not notice them), and I assume you didn't have them either.

I think they are slaved to the front speakers. I don't have a good wire diagram to look but when I looked on the back of my main radio connector i just saw the wires for the front and the back speakers.

those are all the color for the wires, if you need some guidance.

gray with light green stripe (RH dash speaker +)
gray with dark green stripe (RH dash speaker -)
gray with yellow stripe (LH dash speaker +)
gray with no stripe (LH dash speaker -)
gray with purple stripe (LH front door -)
gray with yellow stripe (LH front door +)
green with purple stripe (RH front door -)
green with yellow stripe (RH front door +)
