Default Another Rusty Bumper Thread

Well I got the rusty bumper syndrome on my 2 month old truck today. Alot on the back bumper and a little on the front. I contacted the dealer and they said to clean it and then polish it to help and that Chryslers engineering department was looking into the problem. Not sure what to think about this and I am wondering if I made the right choice of vehicle purchase. I have had 2 other Chev trucks that never had this problem.

A friend of mine with the same truck also has it and it is 2 months old as well.

I understand that salt can be harsh on vehicles but gimme a break. If this truck cant handle Canada then they shouldnt sell them here.

Thanks and sorry for venting, I am just upset.

You should be upset, I would. I thought there was a TSB on this? It seems Dodge is having trouble with a process or supplier. Chrome is an extremely durable finish. Obviously, these parts do not have ample coating. Best of luck.

this isn't something i want to be reading
especially since they've started using that new liquid spray on the roads...not sure what the make-up of it is, but it has to have some form of salt in it and the coverage on vehicles should be much more extensive

i'll definitely be keeping a close eye on her

Is this chrome only? I have a sport with painted bumpers, what spot of the bumper is this happening?

I believe it's only the chrome bumpers . Take it to the dealer if it's real bad , they'll replace it for ya .

a buddy of mine with an auto repair shop said that since they have started to use the brine solution on the roads he has had to replace many more brake lines and fuel lines. there is something in the solution that makes it stick to the roads as well as the undersides of cars his guys power spray off the undersides of there cars and trucks many times over the winter

When I checked for TSB I found recall code K23. Issued Oct 1,2010 all chrome bumpers with corrosion and rust marks are to be replaced.

Concerning the Dodge vs Chevy: I have chrome bumpers and live in Minnesota and (cross my fingers) haven't had an issues yet, but my dad who has a new LTZ Silverado ( with the painted front bumper) and lives in Montana with no salting has rusting. The middle section of those bumpers are metal and when I looked, sure enough his had little rust spots....made me feel better about switching to dodge.
