Question Not downshifting

Has anyone had problems with there 5.7 not downshifting while coasting with foot just on accelerator? Mine will chug very loud until I press harder on pedal to get it to shift down a gear, I think it is also in 4cyl at the time. Normally when coasting at about 60km/hr and about 1200-1300rpm

If you need to downshift for engine braking, do it manually. I wouldn't expect a downshift while coasting.

I am not talking about braking, it is when I am coasting at steady km/hr with foot just on pedal, normally I have slowed down from a faster speed and the tranny has not shifted down. When I slightly press the accelerator to maintain speed it will lug loudly, press harder and it will downshift.

Why would you even want a downshift while coasting unless you were looking for the engine braking effect?

I personally think a lot of people that think they have issues with their truck are really having issues getting used to the MDS system. Lets face it just feels weird when the MDS kicks on or off most of the time. Those of us used to the regular V8 engine did not have anything feel like this does. When you tromped on the gas, it downshifted and took off. Now the new motors have to get into V8 mode and then downshift. It is just not going to feel the same. Get used to it. Rant over.

I'm thinking the truck has shifted into MDS mode and it takes a bit of a change to throttle position and power demand to gear back up to 8 cylinder operation. Also, I've noticed that even when not in MDS mode but in full O/D mode it also take quite a bit to get it to shift down a gear.

Ram tech, the reason to want it to downshift is to stop the LOUD chugging and vibration of being in too high of a gear. I have had friends in the truck that own new GM trucks and they hear it and go "what the @#%$ was that"

Yes, no codes and does not always do it. Of coarse it did not do it when service tech drove it. They tried a smart learn or quick learn. No change

I wouldn't expect to see a code for that kind of issue. Try turning off the MDS and see if it does it then.
