Default Gas Mileage Question

I can't seem to get better than 18 mpg with my truck. I have a 2010 Ram Crew Cab Big Horn 2WD with 3.21 rear end. Everyone talks about getting 20+mpg regularly on here.

What is the speed at which you achieve this mileage and what gear ratios are you running?

Also, I have added a K&N Drop in filter and 18" Mufflex exhaust. In the city which I drive mostly I get about 14-15 on my display as an AVG and calculated about 15 city. Just curious as to why.

My thoughts are here http://www.ramforumz.com/showthread.php?t=64316&page=2 in post #13.

Could be your K&N filter? That's the only difference (other than driving style) that I see offhand. I have a Volant CAI with the PowerCore filter because I couldn't find a way to fit the PowerCore into the stack air box.

I have 3.92 gears in mine. In town.....when I drive like a responsible adult, I average in the 17-18mpg range.....but it's a Hemi....and I like playing with my toy, so I normally only see 11-12mpg.

On the highway, if I am running empty at 65mph, cruise on, relatively flat terrain with no wind, I consistently see 19mpg on the EVIC. If I have even the slightest tail wind, I see 20+. The best I've seen was AVG of 21.5 on a 200 mile trip.....coming home bucking the wind, I got 17.

On a different trip, I drove 150miles at 50mph, and saw 22.5mpg there and 23.5 back. Wind conditions were consistent that day.

As a general average, I am realizing 18mpg highway.

Although I am from Canada and our MPG is different, everything I posted here is based on MPG US.....which is what the EVIC is set to.

Hope this helps.

I have the 5.7 4x4, 5 speed auto, 3:92's in a reg cab swb truck. City averages 14-15, on HWY with cruise 70-75 mph it averages 18-20. If I get excited with the accelerator the numbers drop pretty quick!

It would be interesting to see the results of the 3.21 truck run on the highway in 'manual' 5th.....which is actually 4th.....but really 5th if you count all the gears.....but 4th if you count 2nd twice. Manual 5th is OD1......

I believe that you will find that the BIG HORN is really a 2500 with a 1500 emblem
it won't have MDS
