Default rear axle bearing?

Hi everybody. This is my first official post. I love my truck,it is a '98 4x4 with 5.9.It has 100000 miles on it and it sounds like a bearing in the rearend that is screaming. It goes with the engine speed and when you slow down you can hear it and kinda feel it winding down too. It is kinda loud like when you let your front wheel bearing go too long but it is in the rearend/driveshaft or something. Any advise? I have done all the "first thing you should check" stuff,I think. It performs fine with no hesitations. Thanks for any thoughts.

I have the same problem with my truck. Interested to hear what you find. I am thinking about trying to fix it myself, but I want to educate myself first before I tackle this one

Changing the carrier and pinion bearings is a big job that requires some special tools. If you don't know what you're doing, it's best left to a professional.

Im looking at the same issue. Ive seen alot of complaints on the 9.25. It has aspects to it that make it a real pain in the ass to rebuild compared to other rearends. Crush sleeves and the way the bearings have to be adjusted are the big ones. I am looking into the possibility of swaping with a dana 60 or 70 for the rearend. I think the 3/4ton or 1ton yoke (from 70 donor) would have to be welded on to the drive shaft because it is larger. not sure about any other mods that would be needed.

Do you know who they got the new rearend from for 700? That is not a bad price for a new or rebuild. Installation of a complete axle would be easier then a diy rebuild...imo.
