Default Rear End Replacement Costs

It turns out the squeeking noise I have been hearing lately might be my ear end which is what I thought at first but not happy about it. Its leaking from the yoke but no real play in it. My mechanic says I should change the whole rear cause most likely the seal replacement wont stop the noise... I took a long ride today and must have heated up the gear oil cause I really noticed the leak immediately.

My questions is how much should I expect to pay for a new rear installed in my 97 2500 V10?

I'm not getting this . I think someones feeding you a line of crap . I've never heard a rear squeek . It could be a u-joint or maybe even the brakes . If the rear was out of oil from the leaking seal , the rear would of grenanded by now . Can you post up a video of this squeek ?

The squeak may be completely a different problem all together... I dont believe it is out of fluid, never really noticed a leak until today. The diff was always a little stained but today there is a pronounced leaking of fluid with a few drips when parked. Posting a vid will be a technological advancement that I have not mastered yet... lol

The squeek appears to be from the rear and is definately rotational in nature (meaning the noise would be coming from something rotating, like a bearing, tire, driveshaft or possible and internal gear from the rear. Every rear that ever went in any of my previous trucks would click. This is like something is greased correctly. Cant pinpoint the sound but it may not be related to the leaky yoke shaft...

Take the rear wheels and brake drums off , then spin the rear and see if the noise goes away . It could be something as simple as a brake noise . Let me know what you find .
