2wd or 4x4 ? If your 4x4 you'll need to do both front and rear diffs . To regear a diff isn't something the everyday joe can tackle . If you've had no experience doing it , I would recommend letting a pro do it . Theres several special tools necessary .

Tom is right, however if yours is RWD, I got my kit from Moesperformance for $773 it consiited of 4.11 gears, detriot tru-trac, and a master install kit.. I had my mechanic install it for me since I have never done diff work, and it only cost me $125... I had 3.55's and when i stepped up, it made a huge off the line power difference, and the trucks more responive however i did lose some highway mpg's though.

i am not terrible with working on cars but my friend works on race cars and he also used to be a certified mechanic for dealerships so thats covered just not sure how i would go about it, How much difference does it make in 0-60 time and overall acceleration and power?

Ok...what gears do or are...are torque multipliers. In other words they take your engine/trannys torque output and multiply it so you get better acceleration. It also compensates for larger heavier tires, etc.
What gears DO NOT do is multiply horsepower. So even though your vehicle is quicker, without more horsepower, it will not be faster. WHile a bit simplistic, "quicker" is acceleration or elapsed time. "Faster" is mile per hour or top end.
So to sumarize, lower gears will make your vehicle quicker, but if your horsepower remains the same may make it slower.
Oh FYI....if you don't reset your speedometer, it may LOOK like you're going faster, but trust me, you're not.

Lastly, if your mechanic has never done a DODGE rear end, be advised that I have read of more than one set of gears ruined by folks who "knew" what they were doing. This isn't a Chevy 10 bolt.
If you have a 4x4 you also need a case spreader for your front D-44 and a new carrier.

Also to add-- the only way I know how to reset the speed on the 94-96 rams is by a SCT tuner or the jet recalibatrion chip thingy. I have been told by my dealership that my transmission doesnt have the speedo gear in it, but im not to sure, ill check tomm. to see if it has the gear in it or not

yea i added gears to my 98 ram with a 318

i went from 3.55 to 4.56

the only downfall to them is now my truck is about impossible to drive in the rain, all you do is spin the tires, but that isnt all bad either

always fun to go the beach on sunday nights here, go whip a donut in front of some stupid tuner car
haha
mopar or no car
