The attachment on the airbox is the stock location for the breather hose on the Gen 4. What do you mean by stand alone? The typical solution if you don't live in an emission state (and don't care about your emissions) is the small filter on the end of the hose instead.

I really wasn't referring to boosting my pickup, although it would be badass!!!

I know the guy in Omaha NE that has a boosted 2004 Chevy truck that last time I saw a dyno vid was like 1100hp before his Nitrous.

Anyway I was wondering if the heat from the motor would be hot enough to also release the gasses that will be harmful for the engine.

Also I think if I do it I will use Schedule 80 PVC instead of Schedule 40 just for the heat reason. I am a electrician and I will attempt to use a heat blanket to bend the pipe so I don't have to use a rubber elbow. I have no clue when I will do any of this but its in my to do list!

I did a little more research and Schedule 80 pipe is only rated to 140* F, 80 is also a little thicker so I would think it could handle the heat a little better (that sounds kind of silly).

Just my .02, I am still debating what to do and am probably beating a dead horse!

I know its not summer yet so it hasnt been through its true test of a TX summer.. but this week was pretty warm (mid 80s) and I did a lot of driving. Im pretty throttle happy and the truck also did some idling in the heat. As soon as I got home I popped the hood and checked everything out because I was a little concerned about the heat - BUT im happy to say it is all holding up nicely!

BTW I am using the stock air box on my 4th gen - its already a CIA and I just dropped in a K&N filter.

I ran my pvc setup through the florida summer last year with no problems. I have it painted i should think the paints would peel long before oyu have to worry about the pvc giving off any vapor.

Also, remember that whenever the vehichle is running you a drawing (ostensably) cool air through the pipe ... so it should never heat up all that much, at least on the interior. I think this is an overworry.

Yea I totally agree. I am going to use schedule 80 pipe so its a thicker pipe just to be safe!

Could you cover the pipe with metal ducting tape. I would think that would reflect the heat off the pipe or would it hold the heat.

Awesome write up man!! And to the guys concerned about it getting hot enough to release the gas into your motor, would something like a clear coat sprayed into all the tubing in at least 2 or 3 coats suppress any possibility? Just thinking "out loud" there...
