Default 02 4x4 front wheel bearing replacement

I have 02 4x4 that has a front wheel bearing failing. In my research here, there is not much detail in replacing the bearings, just a bit on how to remove the hub. Is it necessary to replace the whole Hub? Can the bearings be pressed out and replaced, and if so does anyone have the replacement bearing numbers?

As I live in Canada, we seem to pay a premium for parts. I have seen complete hubs for the ram from $120.00 to $250.00 from various US sources, but here in Canada that same hub is $466.00. Importing is slightly cheaper but brokerage fees can be painful.

Never tried replacing the bearing in the hub . Only way I've ever replaced them is by buying the whole hub assembly . If you can get it apart , you should be able to get the number of the bearing .

i replaced both of my front hubs yesterday and the day before. I do not believe you can get just the bearing, or atleast i was unable to find them. i called and searched everywhere and always came to the same conclusion that the whole hub assembly has to be replaced.

its not a bad job BUT have a big hammer ready. no joke it took at least 3 hours per hub to beat the darn thing out of the spindle. It was a nightmare stupid dodge put steel hubs on aluminum spindles. they sorta melt together and getting them apart without destroying the spindle means you gotta hammer that bastard off. IT SUCKS. my body feels like i was in a car wreck.

do yourself a favor and rent a wheel puller. it wont get much off but you can use it to push your drive axle in. It makes getting the 3 bolts that hold the hubs on much much much easier to get.

As soon as I get the boat trailer tucked away for the winter, I will get it apart and see if can source just the bearings. I will let you all know how I make out. Thanks for your replies.

I did on my blazer wheel bearings...bought the cheapest and they had only 90 day warranty on them....6 months and they were shot...... saved like 50bucks each up front ...but I would have spent a whole lot more the second time..... buy quality....
