Default Basic CAI question

I've read quite a bit on here about what some of you have done with the CAI systems from DIY to top of the line stuff. My question is this. On an 05' 4.7 is there really any need to do anything other than get rid of the factory accordian tubing and put in some sort of smooth tube myself and of course upgrade the filter??? Will this do the trick since the factory intake seems to be positioned pretty well as is???

Good question, I'd like to know myself. I'm thinking I'll do the muffler first and fish around for some more info before I waste the cash on a CAI. Aftermarket looks great but these days I'm more into pure performance over looks. This is also why I haven't added a lift.

i'm running the intake tube in place of the accordion and resonator box. i use the stock airbox but cut the front, bottom and fender side out of the stock bottom.

The resonated "hat" is the top priority. The accordian tube second. The box is probably just fine, no more than minimal gain in cone filter over say k&n panel filter.

Did you notice a HP gain when you did this? And where does one buy just these parts?

Airaid makes the MIT tube that replaces the hat and the accordian tube. I just got mine and am contemplating buying the cone filter/heatshield or just replacing the stock filter with a K & N/airaid panel filter and keeping the stock air box.

i had the k&n filter and noticed absolutely no difference, actually have the same performance and better mileage with a fram paper filter. the tube is the airaid mit that i scored used on the cheap.

I also run the Airaid MIT along with a K&N filter on my '08 4.7, and noticed a bit better throttle response. Like GPSHSLAX said, the main restriction on on the factory setup is the resonator hat. Get rid of that sucker & throw in a K&N, and you'll be doing fine

I went to the Airaid site and they don't have a MIT or a JR kit listed for the 2010 ram 1500 with the 4.7.... I guess they don't want my business.
