Default Truck won't start please help

Hey guys new to the forum. I just went outside to start my truck and nothing. 1998 dodge ram 1500 5.2 automatic shorted regular cab 117000 on the clock. It's lifted 6 inches. I'm new to the truck just got it last week it ran fine when I first got it then I didn't start it for about 5 days and I go outside tonight and boom. Just turns over but won't start. I can smell gas so I think it's getting it but that a all I can tell. If there's anything you guys can tell me I would appreciate it very much.
Thanks,
Luke

Is it sluggish when it's turning over ? Was it acting up at all before you parked it ?

Have you checked to see if you have a spark at the plugs?

The truck was running great when I parked it and I started it after a day of sitting and now this. That's the reason I'm so confused.

It's raining and dark out right now so I'm unable to check for spark.

Okay so today I went out, tried it again and nothing just like the battery was dead. So I went to the battery checked the terminals didn't seem loose so I moved the battery and I heard it click on. Turned the key and within half a turn it fired right up. Soo long story short could this be a bad ground or does none of this make sense.....?

I was having issues like this just last weekend. What happened was the last battery I had installed in the truck was the wrong type, and it was just dead. Your battery might just be on its last leg. If you can afford it, I'd recommend just changing the battery.

Well now that's it's happened to me again I've realized that it only happens when it's wet or even damp out. I changed the distributor cap and rotor. Haven't been able to put the new plugs and wires on yet but still no improvement. Any thoughts?

when you go to start it and it doesnt do anything at all like the battery is dead, but it in neutral and possibly it will work. mine does the exact same thing its the neutral safety switch thats going bad on mine.
