Default Whirling/humming sound at around 55 mph

I get this whirling/humming sound in my cab at around 50-60 mph when I'm excellerating normally or easily. It stops as soon as I let off the gas or get over 60-65 mph. Doesn't make the sound when I am excellerating fast to get on a freeway. It kinda sounds like tire noise. I have rolled down my windows but can't really hear anything from the outside. Makes me think it is coming from engine compartment or directly underneath the cab, or maybe front end. Maybe it's just soemthing vibrating somewhere. Anyone experienced this?

Also, sometimes when I come to a stop light, my truck will slightly lurch, and I think I got rearended by someone going about 1mph. I'm guessing that maybe the tranny is dropping from 2nd to first when I'm stopped, or maybe it has something to do with all 8 cylinders kicking in when I come to a complete stop. Anyone experience this? Thanks!

I notice the same sound on my truck, went back to the dealer and they told me the exhaust was making that noise and is normal, didn't believe it, but I will keep an eye on it till my first oil change and will talk to the technician again about it. Did you notice the sound when the ECO is on too?

Synds, do you have a 32 gallon or larger gas tank?
when you feel that little bump, is your tank between 1/2 & 3/4 full

there are no baffles in the tanks & every one of the larger tanks do this
I have had my Ram with the 32 gallon tank for 2 years, i still feel it, takes getting used to

The engine does make a slightly different noise when the ECO is on, especially if it's working hard but not hard enought to switch out of eco. However, this noise is different and I think it is normal. The humming noise that I don't like happens at the speeds I mentioned previously, when I'm excelerating moderately, ECO on or off. I'm betting it's engine or tranny related since it happens when i'm excellerating at thsoe speeds and stops when I left off the gass or get over about 55-60 mph. Then engine is at lower RPM's at the time of the noise so maybe it's a vibration caused by the engine slightly bogging at those particular speeds. At my next oil change, I will ask the dealer to check it out and I will let you know what he says. Please let me know what your dealer/tech says when you take your truck in again. Thanks

Yes I do have a 32 gallon tank, and I bet that is exactly the reason. Thanks GT! Lol, I bet I look funny when I come to a stop sometimes and start looking around frantically for the person who I thought rear-ended me at a low speed.

I have the same issue. Its the tranny shifting into overdrive too soon and dodge engineers are supposedly working on a program for the computers in our trucks to fix that issue. I'm told it doesnt and wont hurt anything, but it sure is annoying.

LOL @ engineers working on it, well they did
in 2012 the transmission will be made by a german company!!
its an 8 speed, already used in BMW
rumors are that they will also be in Fords in the not too distant future
company name is ZF that will be making them,
ZF Builds Passenger Car Transmission Plant in North America
The new plant is to cover the strong demand for the 8 and 9-speed automatic transmissions by ZF With US dollar 350 million, the largest single investment of ZF outside of Germany
In Greenville, South Carolina, USA, ZF Friedrichshafen AG is setting up its first passenger car transmission plant in North America. As of 2013, on approximately 90,000 square meters ground, 8 and 9-speed automatic transmission will be US-manufactured for the North American market. The new building lives up to the powerful growth course of ZF in this region.
