Default Backup Camera

I purchased a VR3 Wireless Backup Camera a while back and instead of wiring it into the reverse lights I would like to wire it into either the liscense plate lights or my taillights so I can view the trailer whenever while in motion. I hate wiring but can manage, would either of these work and which one do you think would be better or easier ?

I would call her but this is just one of those brands you can pick up at Wal-Mart and auto part stores and it's meant to splice in to the reverse lights. So i'm not sure they could recommend much since it's not their product.

Hey Robbie, power through the license plate light would work. I wouldnt run it off the tail lights, it will only work if ur lights are on or your brakes are. You should also have a constant power wire in your tow harness.... and wire a switch to your dash, you can turn on or off anytime you wish. Run any 2, capable rated wires to where you want the switch to the camera and tap into the power wire.

Good luck bro.

The plate light is only on when the tail lights are on too. So ,,,the best spot to wire is to the trailer light harness and stay out of the factory tail light wiring. I had a similar setup only I mounted the camera on my boat trailer and wired to the trailer side harness and if you want to look at it going down the road just turn on your tail lights. That keeps you out of all the truck wiring.

Sorry can't do pics. I got the backup camera option on my 2011 Laramie, which is great, and I also just got done extending my boat trailer tongue by 3 feet, which now keeps my feet dry while launching. In the process of doing that I removed the other camera from the trailer. My truck is the same color as yours BTW.
