Default Towing with the 4x4

alright I just got my hands on a
*97 Ram 1500
*5.2l V8
*5-speed
*4x4
And am having a few problems with it.
1) is the squat. It has 295/85/16 and the factory 3in lift but wheel i put the trailer on it. It slams the rear end. almost to the point of tucking the rear wheels...
2) Power there is none. I can't get the thing up to 80 while towing. I done it with no trailer but now its like it droped the ballz out of it and now has a horizontal smile instead...
Help me please thank you....

your rear springs are old & likely sagging, if they are leaf springs, you can add a helper spring
also you can get some shocks that lift, i believe some Bilsteins do, maybe Monroe load leveler shocks
how heavy is your trailer? load?

when was the last time that it had a tune up?
run some SEAFOAM through your gas tank, any auto parts place will have it, read the directions for best results

^^^ agreed, helper springs or air bags would do the trick for sagging, or replace them all together with new ones. as for the power, she probably needs a good tuning, make sure you check your spark plugs, air and fuel filter and have your Cat checked out, could be getting to the point of being plugged.

1st question:
What are you towing and how much does it weigh? It must be quite a bit to sag your rear springs.

295 size tires x hwy geared rear end = no power

80 mph towing???? seriously? Oh...24 yrs old.

Me thinks you bought the wrong truck.

295/85-16? Thats one fat tire. I have 245/85-16, Load E tires. Towing anything, you need to have the proper tire. Plus, the wider the tire, the more drag you are going to have. And don't speed excessively while towing. Cause once you loose control, say goodbye to your trailer and truck. When I haul my lawn equipment, I don't do more than 65mph.

Seems like some bad rear springs or the trailer is way to heavy

towing that fast is way to dangerous.

My camper is dry weight 7400. I use a load leveling hich too. I have had it hooked up to just a regular hitch and it hardly sagged at all.
