I'm not sure of a price on those gears.

Have you looked in to a tuner or some other performance mods? Those can help out the mpg, but it'll be hard with such big tires.

Depending on the brand and going labor rates in your area, I would think the $2000 range for both diffs. It's not something you need to try yourself if you haven't ahd some kind of training or experience.

maybe downgrade the wheels to 35's, that may spare you a mile or so per gallon. upgrade to a bigger CAI with other performace mods.

Why? He's right.

Let's say you install a new 4.10 gear set. That might save you 1 mpg. At 12k miles a year at current gas prices, that's $200. I don't know for sure, but I would imagine a diff gear set is around $400-500 for parts only. It would take you two years to get a return on that. Now 4.10s have other performance benefits, but don't do it for fuel mileage.

Smaller tires? That will run you well over a thousand, so it would take you 5+ years to get a return on that. Plus you wouldn't like your truck as much. You have 37s for a reason right?

A used beater Civic for $3-5k? At 12k miles a year, at an average of 24mpg, will save you at least $1750 a year. That will net you a return (just on fuel) in 2-3 years.

Sounds like he gave good advice to me.

Here's my take - nobody ever bought a Ram for fuel economy.
