Default 4WD light flashing when engaged

Ok, sorry if this is a dumb question, but this is my first 4 wheel drive vehicle.

When I engage the 4wd, the lights flash. Is that normal? I can tell it's working while driving, but the flashing light is annoying.

Thanks.

when the light is flashing that means the transmission is trying to engage itself into 4WD only once it stops is it actually engaged.

what he said ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ it'll flash until it's engaged then stay solid.

when I messed around in the snow/mud sometimes it takes a little longer to engage so it'll blink for a 15-20 seconds before going solid. you just have to wait.

if it never engages completely and keep blinking, take it in to get it serviced

Ok, so then I have an issue? I drove in 4 wheel yesterday for about 2 hours in a "snow storm" and it flashed the whole time.

I will assume this would be something covered under the power train warranty?

Before I take it in, let me ask a really super stupid question. Am I just putting the truck in neutral and then turning the 4wd on or is it on the fly?

Thanks.

for 4lock/high you can change on the fly i'm pretty sure. it's in your owners manual I believe.

for 4lo, the best way to do it is stopped and in neutral.

honestly the stopped and in neutral is probably the best way for any 4wd mode. i was in and out of 4lock this weekend in the snow at 40-50mph with no issues.

manual suggests at a 4-5 kmph roll but i usually just do it in neutral at a stand still
shes an expensive vehicle component to fix, every precaution doesn't hurt

Thanks for the input guys. I'll try putting it in 4wd in the parking lot and make sure that it is continually flashing (I'm sure it is) and if so I'll take her in. This is under power train right?

Thanks.

Apparently maybe I was doing it incorrect. I put the truck in neutral, put it up in 4wd and took off, felt the 4wd engage and the light stayed solid this time. Did it with 4wd low too. So, I should probably read my owner's manual before driving again . Hopefully it was just operator's error.

Thanks all for your input.
