if you listen to people that have leased, they did as a corporation write off & they buy the vehicle at the end of the lease, ( if it had been a reliable vehicle, ) & the corporation then sells it to an interested employee

its a damn good deal for the employees, a used vehicle that they know was taken care of

I had leased an Explorer and I, for one will never lease again. I returned the vehicle ~ 1,000 miles UNDER mileage and the truck was still mint. They still managed to charge me $150 for a burn hole the size of a M&M under the driver's seat. Eh, I guess that's Phord for ya!!

There are very few advantages of leasing. Leasing is a much deeper financial burden as most people that lease get out of their vehicle and get into a new one 3-4 years down the line (term of their lease.) I know one person that has done this for 20 years and I cringe to think how much money could of been saved that was wasted on leases over the last 20 years. The ONLY advantage he has is that he is in a new vehicle every few years.

There are many disadvantages to this, the biggest being what he's spent over the last 20 years leasing, vs buying a vehicle outright and owning it outright. The benefit of buying and "hopefully" having a reliable vehicle is that while vehicles depreciate, the longer you own it, the less the financial impact is on you. I plan on keeping my Ram a very long time, and have the lifetime Maxi-Care Wrap on it so while it's a burden to pay now, in a few years when i've paid it off..i'm riding free and clear, and 100% worry-free as parts and labor are fully covered for as long as I own the truck.

And as stated, even if you don't have an extended warranty, the longer you own, the less your financial impact becomes year to year regardless...unless it's just a clunker and turns into a repair money pit.

heres an advantage to leasing getting a cheap car for going back and forth to work (hyundai, kia) you pay the 150 bucks a month try to stay under the milage never pay for repaires trade in for another lease every 2-3 yrs never own it but dont put $ into it either.doesnt make sense on truck with a 500 month lease unless its 100% business write off.im self employed and still buy all my vehicles.

I couldn't fit one leg into a Hyndai and even if I could I wouldn't sit my ass in one..lol. Even a lower-cost lease like the example you gave someone does for say 3-4 lease terms as cost-savings. Do the math over 6-7 years, you could of purchased the Hyundai outright at that point and under leasing you won't own a thread on the seat by the time it's over.

It really depends on the type of life style you have.
For my b/f's parents a lease is great...he get's always a new vehicle, they look after him well at the dealership. he never has to worry about anything, he doesn't drive very far ever (matter of fact he paniks if he has to drive on the highway) and he is always right up on his oil changes and such.
For me NO WAY, I put on far too many miles, I enjoy driving far too much. I love putting new things on and taking old things off the vehicle. Plus I am young enough that I can pay it off, and be done with it. Plus in 5 years I can get another new car and still have a great truck...run 2 vehicles. 1 for summer 1 for winter and voila...all is paid for...maybe LOL

I have leased numerous vehicles and it does have it's advantages. I do not care about the money I pay for the vehicle over the 2-3 year lease, as I enjoy having a new one fairly regularly, hence, I have had 45 vehicles over the last 12-13 years.

The worst thing you can do on a lease is when it is up and you're way over on mileage is to turn it in and walk away. They want to keep you as a customer, so if you get into the same vehicle, or Brand at the end of your lease then you won't get hit for the mileage or condition. I've done this many times..

You can also sell your car outright at the end of the lease to a private buyer and you also won't get hit with any of their stipulations regarding the terms of it.

I also like the fact that the residual value of the vehicle is set (what it will be worth at the end of the lease) is set at the beginning, so no matter what the market does, or if when something depreciates more than it's expected to, you do not get hit with it..

Pros and cons to it, if you like a certian brand and will only be driving that brand, want a new vehicle every few years, don't care about mileage, then lease it. When it is over turn it in, get into a new lease.. If you don't like it and want to go with another brand, sell it outright at the end of the lease and shop for another vehicle that suits your needs. If you want to keep the vehicle after the lease because you like it, then buy it out from the lease. We just did this with our 07 Denali as it only had 45K miles and have had 0 issues, so there was no point in getting another new one..

I have leased one time(2006 GTO), and I have regretted ever since I signed the papers. Paid $425/month for 3 years 9 months. Turned it back in with only 33,000 miles on it. Didn't have to pay anything because GM did me right.
Do the math on $425/month for 45 months= $19,125!!
Now I don't even have it. I love my HEMI, but the Goat was a speed and power beast for bone stock.
I was young, impatient and at the time could barely afford the payment, but that was the only way I could get the car, and I just HAD to have it. $20K would've gone a long way towards my beastly RAM.
Just thought I'd throw in my 2.
BTW, when I turned in the Goat, they offered me purchase financing. 8.9% for 36 months on $17K. after total lease money and purchase money I would have paid nearly $40K for my $31K car.....The exact same amount I'll pay for my Ram financed outright for 5 years.

Just sayin.
