Default AVG/MPG help the new Dodge owners

Hi Dodge Ram owners, I am trying to help all the new proud owners of a 4th generation, especially with the new 2011 since some of us just bought Dodge for the first time.

The main concerns of all us is how MODS can help increase MPG, or which MOD is the best for the price or which one is a completely waste of money and time. Posting your experience will be the best way to help me and others.

This is my first RAM and I’m kind of lost to decide which MOD will help my MPG and how can I spend my money wisely.

When you post your AVG/MPG please try to reset your computer and get the numbers after a tank of gas, if you just reset the computer, your MPG will be higher than normal. If you have hand calculations instead post it too.

Post your AVG/MPG following the template bellow, and don't forget to add your notes by the end. I will really appreciate it.

Year:
Model (trim):
Engine:
Rear Axle gear ratio:
Tires Size:
Highway percent:
City percent:
Location:
Octane:
Hand or computer calc:
Miles on the Truck:
AVG/MPG:
MODS and experience with them:

I’m going to start with my truck:

Year: 2011
Model: 1500 Crew Cab Lone Star
Engine: 5.7 Hemi
Rear Axle gear ratio: 3.55
Tires Size: 275 60 20 stock Goodyear HP
Highway percent: 30
City Percent: 70
Location: Fort Hood, TX
Octane: 87
Hand or Computer calc: Computer
Miles on truck: 1650
AVG/MPG: 15.6
MODS and experience with mods: none. Want to install the CAI first (should I?) and Y pipe and MagnaFlow Exhaust.

Thanks

I got my 2011 on saturday and filled it up right after leaving the dealership and reset the computer. Admittedly my foot got heavy more then a few times and thus i averaged 18L/100kms. :P I'm on my second tank and so far it says i'm averaging 16.

edit: mines all stock btw including the 20 inch goodyear's

Welcome to the World of Ram. Make it your own with your own mods and enjoy your new truck.

IMHO, NO mod will ever save enough fuel to pay for it self. If the mods were that good, the factory would install it to up it's fuel rating and it's sales.

Preformance mods will only help a small $ amount if you can keep your right foot lite on the go pedal. At that they will never pay for them self.

I've only had mine a week and 250 miles so I'm hoping the mileage will get better once it breaks in a bit....

My question is...is the computer accurate? Both my 05 and 08 were off about 1mpg less than what it showed....I'll be doing a manual check this weekend when I fill it.

During the winter we get that 10% ethanol mix gas so mileage goes down...I'd be happy with 15-16mpg....

It's been my experience with prior vehicles that neither a CAI or exhaust does anything for gas mileage. They both will, however make the truck sound better, and the CAI improves the under the hood looks.
