Default 1000 Watt Power Inverter on my 2010

I'm thinking of running a 1000 Watt Power Inverter (DC to AC) off my battery on my 2010 (hemi) using 4ga wire to a toolbox in the bed.

Any issue running low Watt power tools for cutting and drilling off the truck while in idle?

Not all the time just for emergencies. I've done this with other trucks and never had a problem. The value of being able to run small tools and a small toaster/microwave is huge.

Will this void any part of my warranty?

You'd need to wire a major DC/AC power converter. The work trucks on the site I'm on right now run 5000W inverters from Royal Power, and they're pretty impressive. It'll run the 3" electric pipe bender, but the engine MUST be running. I think the hemi should be able to handle the draw since the alternator's rated for 130A. We run the diesels in high idle when doing this just so there's no issues.

5000W .. wow. I was running a 750W and was able to run some select power tools. Not sayiing cutting a 4x4 was easy, but it was do-able.

Does this void your factory warranty?

I think I can even run a small microwave with 2000 Watts.

I'd like to run 4ga wire, but not through the inside of the truck, somehow under the body and somehow into my aluminum toolbox.. not sure how yet. wonder about the best path and distance of cables - Also, If I use a additinal fuse, I'd like to have it closer to the inverter rather than the battery as I have seen other do.

Thanks.

almost every Auto Parts store carry those inverters, but, who knows how long they will hold up. Best Buy also carries them
If i were going to buy, something larger than came in my '09 Ram, I would consult a automotive sound & alarm person, the shop that i use for any auto electrical work, carries top of the line inverters, he actually KNOWS the products he sells, unlike a auto parts store

i have been looking for a good AC to DC unit, but, they cost a small fortune, DC to AC units are everywhere

I don't see this voiding your warranty, but if you want to be 100% sure, then check with your dealership. I'd put it in the same category as adding a stereo, which doesn't void your warranty as you're not cutting into your stock electrical system.

Funny you mention a microwave... our welder has a 0.7cuft microwave mounted next to his stereo system in his custom welding bed 'course his runs off of his welder which is just a massive electric generator.

Running the cable under the truck will be easy, you can follow your taillight wiring harness OR you can run it through the frame. I'd run it in some looming to protect the cable; then just ground it to your frame. I would still ground it close to the battery, you don't want a run of wire that long with it not fused, or you can short your battery/charging system if you wear through the sheathing and make frame contact.

Battery is on driver side on my 2010. I wonder if the bed has any rubber plugs near the top of the raiil so I dont have to drill through the sheet metal.

Dumb question ... I need to run two lines (+ and -) and connect directly to the battery right? And my fuse should be on the + side right , but can the fuse be closer to the inverter?
