okay, here's my story. my husband and i went out of town this weekend (about a 3+ hour drive one way) and the truck was running fine...infact it seemed to delight in stretching it's legs with the higher speeds of the freeways.
before leaving to come home, we stopped to fill up and put a quart of automatic transmission fluid into the truck. it had just started raining cats and dogs and a few miles up the freeway it started adding snow to the mix. we have studs on our truck that aren't the best but they are better than nothing. anyhow, the truck started jerking and the rpms revved way up past 2500 and we were in stop and go traffic. it acted like it didn't or couldn't quite get out of it's own way! it felt sorta like something was slipping but due to the weather we thought it might have been the tires.
an hour later we started up the steep hill of the pass in the snow. everyone was stopping to chain up so we pulled over to do that as well as put the truck into 4-wheel drive. thats when it happened. the truck just decided it wasn't going to move. we can shift the gear shift all day long but nothing we do will engage the wheels and make that truck move!
just before this happened, the OD light would get stuck on showing the OD was off and it was shifting back and forth between gears or it felt like it to me.
back in November we replaced both speed sensors (one in the rear end and the other in the transmission).
Now, sorry for the book, has anyone had this happen and does it indicate we need a new transmission (or to have it rebuilt) or could it be the gov. solenoid or something like that??
any help would be greatly appriciated!
