Default Fluids changeout

I have a 2002 Ram 1500 with the 360 and I just reached the 70,000 mile mark. I bought the truck used with 49k. I haven't changed any of the fluids but the oil since I bought it and I am thinking about doing a full fluid change this spring/summer(transmission, differential, t-case, and probably radiator flush). So do you guys think its worth it to use royal purple fluids? and how often do you recommend changing of these fluids? I really am trying to avoid having to replace this transmission at any point because I can't afford one and I'm terrified because I know their history. Any help/comments appreciated. Thanks!

never heard any complaints with Royal purple. i don't use it, but hear lots of good things. as far as fluid changes, just follow the manufacturer's specs. unless you like feeling lucky, and goin longer. i just changed the trans fluid (not a flush n fill) n filter and will do it again later this summer while i do a shift kit. wish i could have done em at the same time, but funds were not around. i go longer on oil changes (my choice) since i'm using ASMOIL and evern after 4k miles, oil still looks dang good. which sux cause i normally go longer, but i have to change it early since i've gotten all kinds of crap in the oil while changing timing cover gasket (for coolant leak).

good luck and hope all goes well.

Your best bet is to go ahead and change them out . Not knowing the full history and what hasn't been changed . You may want to refer to your owners manual for future fluid changes . I know on my '01 , that the rear diff oil (w/posi) is suppose to be changed ut every 15,000 miles . I didn't do mine till later and it cost me a rear . We have a new member that just experienced the same isue due to lack of rear diff service . I strongly recommend Amsoil products also . Ramtech did a thread on synthetic oils and said that Royal Purple wasn't recommended due to it not having a certain additive in the oil that is required .

Thanks for the help! And I am definitely going to follow the manufacturer's specs because I really cannot afford to replace anything as I said and I need this truck to get me around! I just wasn't sure what they were since I bought the truck used, it didn't have the manual. One other question, I am not too mechanically inclined but I can turn a wrench, do you think I should attempt a fluid changeout or take it to a shop?

well, if you can turn a wrench and read instructions, don't see why you can't do it. also, personally, there is just something totally satisfying working on it yourself and saying,"yep, i did it" and then also saving money. me, i started from no experience (meaning, i knew where to put the gas and the key. spark plug? what's that? you gotta put oil in these darn things?) and taught myself a lot just by reading and doing.

good luck and enjoy the fun.

I seem to recall reading some place, maybe the owners manual, that the trans band need to be adjusted every 30,000 miles.??? Maybe someone else will chime in on this. That would seem to make a complete service essential. Perhaps someone else will chime in on this.

I noticed that RamTech did not mention this. Either an over site, or I am wrong!???
