May sound crazy but check your exhaust manifold bolts. I just found a missing one on mine yesterday. It's a common problem. I replaced and ticking noise is gone!

it looks like it would be easiest if you go from under the truck i have the same noise sounds like its coming from the drivers side i just looked today all there all tight. im not going to worry till it gets louder or it breaks. but it wont hurt to look.

The "ticking" could be one of the heat shields heating up. The mounting bolts could be loose/missing.

In reference to my previous post, our car ticks in the engine compartment area for quite a while when we shut it off. That's almost certainly the heat shields and so that is not an unusual thing. As the metal sheild passes through certain temperatures you may hear it and that is why it goes away when hot

I had 3 broken exhaust manifold bolts and ticking. If you look down at the manifold you can see the bolts holding it to the heads. If the bolt heads are not there, you have broken bolts too.
