Default Cb Radio/ Antenna Mount

I saw a post awhile back as to where to mount a CB and or Antenna. Hope this helps some of you guys out I made mine so it could be completely disconnected very easily. My Antenna is 4ft Wilson Fiberglass; picture shows it disconnected and can be connected withing minutes. Uniden Radio peaked and tuned to 2 watt dead key, w/4 pin cobra mic. Antenna has been tuned as well. Very Loud Radio!! Made Radio so I could hook it up by cig/plug very easy to do so I can make it very portable.

Nice set up, I've got a Ranger 66 cranked up to 15 watts but have not installed it yet.
My truck doesn't have the console, so mine will be done different but thanks for the ideas.

where you have your radio mounted would wear out my right leg, i keep my leg resting against the center console, having just the mic cable coming out at my right leg, sometimes irritates my leg
most of my runs are 190 miles one way & then i have to drive back home
my radio is a Ranger RCI6300F150; 10M AM/FM only Versions of RCI-6900, Small Fan cooled design on F150, it is TUNED & converted to 11 meter, i am putting out 50 watts & it is not FCC approved

my portable unit, that is an emergency radio that i also rent out to the Highway Patrol on occasion

if you just want a Cobra or Uniden, they have them at FRY's electronics, ( they are the sons of FRY's grocery stores in Arizona ), just off the 17 Phoenix, AZ
3035 W. Thunderbird Road

Most truck stops have them too, as well as other brands, if you go to one of them, look at the different antenna mounts

Kustom CB & Stereo

look at the better known CBs for Truckers

almost any CB can be TUNED or MODified, but, don't look here, FCC doesn't like it

Thanks for the info it was very helpyful, but at the same time I am a new radio hobbyist. What do you recommend? I want something that I do not have to worry about getting stepped on.

There are a lot of good radios out there. Depends on if you want to go "pro" or hobby. GT above left so good info.

The antenna and it's mount is of UTMOST importance. Long & high. When was the last time you saw a semi with a 4' fiberglass antenna mounted with 2' below the cab?

I run a "tuned" Cobra 29 radio mounted like sindelir3020 with a Wilson 1000 antenna in the center of the roof.

You will always get stepped on by the big boys with the BIG radios. I don't have that much money or need.

you will always get stepped on & when it happens & you & who you are trying to communicate with just have to decide on a different frequency (channel )

truckers mostly use 19 & 31
Mexicans will be on 5, 6, 7, & 10
all the other frequencies will be hit & miss

most truckers & base stations will have a booster amplifier ( linear ), some of them are real A-holes & spend their money on boosters & noise makers, some will put out 1,000 watts, we can't talk over them
many base stations like to shoot skip, when the Sun Spots are just right, they can talk to God, coast to coast is nothing for them. We on the other hand, according to FCC rules, can only talk about 20 miles, its referred to as line of site, so 2 people sitting on high hills 20 miles apart, can speak to each other legally, using only a standard legal 4 watt radio. IF you want a little booster, get one that is capable of 100 watts, but only use 50 or 75 watts of it. Otherwise you will get a knock on your door, loss
of your equipment & a possible $75,000 fine

Seeing as you are only starting out as a hobbyist, get a reconditioned cb if you can Cobra 25 LTD or 29 LTD
https://www.cobra.com/category/mobile-cb-radios-2-2.cfm

or a UNIDEN 68 or 78
http://www.unidendirect.com/itemlist...pe=prd&catid=5

get a Wilson antenna, not a Firestick, believe me when i say that there is a difference, i don't use a fiberglass antenna, although many people do, the antenna Match or tune is VERY important. the ground is very important too, if you put it on your bed, ground the truck bed to the cab body & even the frame if you want

a VERY GOOD microphone is a Telex Turner Roadking 56, if you need a 4 pin microphone, almost every place that sells CBs will have them, it is what i bought after my original mic went bad, to use one, you almost have to have your mouth touching the mic to use it though, because it is a noise canceling microphone

any other questions that you have, I or someone else will answer or try to answer it
