Default P0456 Code, dealer wants me to replace fuel tank

Hello all, been chasing this problem for the past 6 months. First dealer states issue with ESIM and i believe they changed the canister. Light back on 7 days later. Next, changed gas cap, light back on 5 days later. Take back to dealer, now smoke test shows leak in hose from tank that runs parallel to fill hose, which i witnessed. Replace hose and light back on 5 days later. Back to dealer and now they state its a leak in the fuel tank coming from the check valve so i would need to replace tank at a cost of $1400. Seems very fishy to me. Is that an issue that would throw this code? Thanks!

They are probably still blowing smoke. Try a local reputable mechanic. If a tank is necessary get one from an auto wrecker.

P0456-EVAP PURGE SYSTEM SMALL LEAK

When Monitored:
With the ignition off, fuel level less than 88%, ambient temperature between 4 C and 43 C (39 F and 109 F), and the fuel system in closed loop.

Set Condition:
As temperatures change, a vacuum is created in the fuel tank and Evap System. With the Evap System sealed, the PCM monitors the ESM switch. If the ESM switch does not close within a calibrated time, an error is detected by the PCM. One Trip Fault. Three good trips to turn off the MIL.

POSSIBLE CAUSES:
EVAP PURGE SYSTEM LEAK
EVAP PURGE SOLENOID
EVAP SYSTEM MONITOR SWITCH
IMPROPERLY INSTALLED ESIM

Default ramcares

So it sounds like you're saying that it wouldn't be the check valve in the tank, is that accurate?

Default fixed!

OK, took to local mechanic through a coworker and they found that it was definitely coming from top of gas tank. Dropped tank and wound up being a small hose that was rubbing on truck frame. $598. Lot cheaper than $1500 for new tank.
