Default Have you seen this one? Dome lights.....

So driving down the road the other day the dome lights came on & off, and the doors unlocked & locked themselves. Very random & only in short bursts. It was raining and when I would push the lever to make the wipers wipe it would do this.............

Now the dome & headliner click lights stay on, the doors will not lock when I start rolling, and when I stop and shut off the engine with the key in the ignition it dings like I have left the lights on.

Can anyone here help, please and thank you!!!!

I won't even get into the potential oil & coolant leaks I think I am facing.

I saw a similar problem posted. If I remember correctly it was the switch in the steering column (called a multi-purpose switch, I think). The poster had it fixed at a dealer for about $300, I believe.

I'd pull out the Ouija board and make sure there are no evil spirits. That would have scared the BAJESUS out of me!

This happened to my ford explorer about a year ago, dome light and door locks did the same thing and it started dying on me every once in a while. Turned out being a shorted wire in the big cluster wrapped in rubber where it goes into the driver door. Quick fix was pulling out fuses that control the locks lights etc. until i could fix it!

Okay........... an update of sorts.

I was digging around in the fuse panel and pulled the one for my power locks. The dome lights went back to normal & the dinging stopped with the key in the ignition. That fuse must also control the intermittent wiper function as they no longer work but only turn on and off.

I am thinking the lights were a secondary issue caused by the lock malfunction. Sort of like when you use the fob to unlock the door the lights come on. So now I just have to find out if I have a short somewhere or a malfunctioning part.
