I towed my 10k lb camper 40 miles up interstate 90 last summer to my river property at 65 mph and my tach was barely hitting 3k. However, I had a Reese tow package with anti sway bars and a Mopar trailer brake controller professionally installed by a local reputable RV dealer. They had my Ram and my camper in their shop for about 2 hours measuring and calculating tongue weights and other stuff I did not understand. I spent a lot of $$ to have this done but it was well worth it. Also, I have the 3.55 gears. I think a lot of folks buy trucks to tow stuff but they have no idea the other issues that come with towing. They think they can just hook and go. It is not that simple and quite frankly it can be dangerous. It pays to do your homework and have reputable folks do reputable work. Just my 2 cents.

^^^^ With 3:55 gears, your Ram is not rated to pull 10k.

oh i know about towing! my trailer is hooked up about 75% of the time to my truck! the max trailer weight of this truck is 6450! if it had the 3.92s it would be 10000! they sold me a truck they know nothing about! dont get me wrong i should have looked at the max trailer weight before i bought but i didnt realize there was a 3.55 rear and a 3.92! my 07 ram was 3.92 and would tow 120 mph all day! this this wont get over 50 with just a toyota on the car trailer! and it smelled like it was buring to the ground when it was towin!

You are correct. That is why I had the tow package professionally installed. And I will not be towing the camper at all unless there is flooding and I have to pull it out of my property. Having said that I think I could pull it across the country no problem. The real key for me was having the RV dealer do the work. They guaranteed the work and in that guarantee it states that they will not install towing equipment on vehicles that can not tow the RV or anything else you plan on towing. My RV dealer refused to install the tow package without my camper there to measure and level. I had no idea. I learned a lot. In my opinion tow ratings are just that. Ratings. If you do your homework and pay $$ for professional work you are fine. My problem is with folks who call their trucks pieces of shit because they seem to be misinformed. My truck is not a piece of shit. I own it and I did my homework. One last thing, when my truck is hooked to my RV the rearend barely loses any height, it comes nowhere close to rubbing the ground. That is due to the RV dealer measuring and leveling the tow package.

I towed a 3800 lb car on a double axle U-haul trailer from FL-VA and averaged 13-14 mpg on the hwy when I had 3.55s.

My post was for Chubby. Just FYI for him. I feel your pain. My last ride really out pulled this Ram. (not a diesel). I disagree with some on this site. You should be able to tell a salesperson what the truck is going to be use for and the salesperson should put you in the right truck. Like you, I learned the hard way.

on that note... I literally had to ARGUE with the salesman at the dealership for 30 minutes about a factory installed sunroof vs. a sunroof installed by "a guy we have worked with for years".

I told him no again and again, and he persisted.
He insisted he would stake his career on it.

I'm sure if I came back unsatisfied he would have turned in his resignation and started over as a plumbers apprentice.

I walked out then he miraculously located a truck with a factory sunroof for me 5 minutes later.
WHAT LUCK!
