Default Question about 14x3 air hat intake setup

How are you guys securing an air hat to the throttle body without the stud and butterfly nut????

I've seen some ram's with intake setups as such:

That I can clearly see where the stud and nut are... But my 318 has a differnt intake, same as a friends 5.9 farm truck has... No nut, no stud. They are set up like my old 4.7 dak was with a box filter and a rectangular resonator box as such:

On second thought, I was gonna add a pic of my setup, but they must be uncommon because I can't even find one!!

HELP!!!

There is still a place for the stud to go into on your throttle body. I used the hat from the first one to make mine, which is like the bottom photo.
Here is my stock setup

And what I got now

And I am assuming this is what you are wanting

Awesome info, thanks!

Yes, my intake is currently the same as your stock one, and I want to swap to the bottom pic where it's just the 14x3 cleaner.

Thanks! Now I know I just need to get the stud and nut and filter! I was worried I might have to swap throttle bodies or something crazy

question about the 14x3 intake set-up. Does heat from the engine bay have any negative effect on how it performs? I think it looks real slick and there was another guy here with pics of an Edelbrock Flo Pro that looked really good too!

No, not at all. People have actually done "studies" if you will that show that the air under the hood reaches an equal temperature as outside the bay once you are moving, since there is plenty of air flow coming in.

That's interesting, I made my own CAI based on Werm's pics and now I'm liking the idea of an air hat right on top of the TB.

Yeah, I love the idea.

Plus, it's always been my personal opinion that a shorter intake is better than a long cold air. Allow me to explain

Cold Air intake- True cold air intakes would have the element inside the front bumper area, sucking cold air from under the car, the fender well, etc. The longer charge pipe means less throttle response, less bottom end power, but more upper torque due to the colder charge.

Then you have Short Ram intakes, which are keeping the pipe short, drawing engine bay air in faster, and we already know that temperatures under the hood do not get any higher than outside when the vehicle is moving. Short ram intakes have better throttle response, and more low end, rip your jeans apart kinda torque

So why not go with the shortest intake of all! haha

There is a place to put a stud in the throttle body for the 14X3 setup.......unfortunately it is not in the center. My friend put one on his 97...got a piece of threaded rod and we heated it and bent it so it would come up in the center.

right on, I've got a short air intake on now but I like the look of the filter right on top. I might price out an Edelbrock flow pro.
