Default 07 Cummins question

Howdy folks
Im thinking about trading in my 08 Dodge 1500 on a 07 5.9 cummins.
Only problem is with the cummins it needs a tranny front pump.
How much does that cost and is that a red flag thats something is wrong with it? Has 88k miles and he is asking $22,000 for it. Price seems to good to be true?

Thank you

07' 5.9? Must be a mid-year thing for the 6.7's. Anyway, mine had 103K miles two years ago and I paid 20K. It's a stripped ST model with automatic. Mileage was nothing for this motor, but the tranny has always been marginal at best. Assume you have to replace it and then figure if you still want to buy it. Will he allow you to pay a trans shop of your choice for an evaluation? Offer that he can drive it there and pick it up, so long as they speak to you directly about the issues found. Could be the best $120 you ever spent. Does he have maintenance records? $22K for a Cummins with that mileage is a good price if the rest of the truck is very clean (mine was). You did not mention model or trim. Good luck, I hope this helps. You will LOVE the difference a Diesel makes!!

07 was the last year for the 5.9 and finding an 07 with a 5.9 is hard. The 6.7 actually made the blue book value of the 5.9s go up.
Your best bet is to kelly blue book the truck with all of its options and see what it comes too.
5.9 have pretty good fuel mileage but also keep in mind with the rising fuel costs, when gasoline goes up, diesel goes up even more.
If you dont need a 2500 thats a good bit of extra weight and a stiffer ride to be hauling around all the time

I would hands down go for that deal in a heartbeat. You'll be paying a bit for the tranny fix, but it's a good time to add on a line pressure booster and do a valve body job.

Thanks for the replys (:

The guy is actually going to fix it up and keep it,but i found a different one thats a 07 cummins 5.9, 4x4 bighorn,80,531miles and they want 26,400 for it. Going to see it tomorrow morning and if they give me a good trade in value(wanting 20,400) ill get that (:

Right now i got a dodge 1500 big horn, 4x4, 5.7 hemi with 34,000miles and that thing gets bad mpg. Feels like its getting mabey 15mpg highway and like 10 in town. Some of my friends have a cummins and they get around 25highway and like 17 in town.

Gas here is 3.28-3.29 and diesel the last i saw was right around 3.60
So i will gladly pay that for better mpg lol

I also found a 3500(non dually) laramie, cummins 5.9 with almost 87k miles and he wants to trade right out for my truck, but he has a rebuilt title soooo i really dont know about that one lol.

Have a good one guys/gals

The cheapest I've found it in PA is 3.99 a gallon. The money you may save on fuel is going to go right back into maintenance of the truck. Just changed the oil last week with 3 gallons of Rotella at $42 a gallon and found out it needs all new injectors. The motors will last 300k miles but the trucks wont and it really adds up.
For some reason not one of these trucks is like the next so be careful when your looking. My buddy has a 3500 QC short bed with 4.10s and 35's and is barely getting 350 miles a tank, my 2500 QC long bed with 3.73s and 35's is around 22-24 and another friends 3500 QC dually with 3.73s and a 175hp tune gets about the same as me
