Default Cruise Control

I have a '97 Ram and when I try to use my cruise control it doesn't work. Havn't been able to get it to set since I purchased the vehicle about a year ago. The cruise light on the dash comes on but when I press set it doesn't. The previous owner also said he could never get it to work either

Could be electrical of vacuum related. Since you have other electrical gremlins, let's tackle those first.

I know on the ones (my 95) with the cruise unit mounted under the battery seem to crack the vacuum line going into it. Might want to check that.

I have a 2001 that it worked great then quit. drove it for two years like that and then it would not start. Do you have tilt steering using the tilt steering lots cracks the the wires in the steering column I fixed both my starting problem and all the other wires that were broke in the column and my cruise is back and working well. Just a thought. hope it helps.
