Default Improved my Gas Mileage

Okay, so I have been running conventional 5w20 oil for 5000km and my average mileage has been 24Liters/100KM (Sorry yankee friends, not sure what the MPG is). I have been getting that mileage consistently since I got the truck, spent about $600 in gas in January alone! Most of my driving is in the city.

So I went and got Mobil1 5w20 Synthetic ($114 at Mr. Lube), and went to Canadian Tire and got their brand Fuel System Cleaner they say to use every 5000km. Ever since then, my mileage has gone down to 17Liters/100KM and the MDS kicks in more often on the highway, and last trip on the highway I got 11Liters/100KM. The MDS is way smoother now too.

Just wanted to post this so maybe it could help out someone else. There could be many reasons it has gone down, but my driving style hasn't changed and the weather hasn't much either.

I converted your text so it makes sense to "normal" people

That's a pretty huge difference, seems stange synthetic could have that much of an impact.

I have been running synthetic in my last truck (Toyota Tundra) for years and it never helped at all. I have not done and oil change on this beast yet, but I will be using synthetic when the time comes. Hopefully it will help me, but I have my doubts

You gained 7.6 MPG with a change to synthetic and running a fuel system cleaner through it? To me, something had to be clogging up the system before hand and might explain the huge difference.. Never seen that before..

But, hey, if it improved yours, that is all that matters.

2010 ram 1500 crew cab 355 gears with the hemi.I was getting 20 mpg highway went down to 16 after i went to the dealer for my 5000 oil change. The truck about doubled in power after i left. The bill said they had to recalibrated the computer must of been running lean i would guess.Dont know if this is a normal 5000 mile service or they just saw the numbers were off.

I use Castroil Syntex full synthetic oil and maybe at best see a 1mpg gain. I dont use the oil for the mpg's obviously, I use it because its good for the engine. I got over 178,000 miles on my 05 ram hemi and it never leaked a drop and didnt burn any and still ran like new when I traded it in. But helping that much im MPG???? I just never saw that..

I've had 2 oil changes now through the dealership, both conventional Oil. I seem to be gettting better fuel economy now with approx 15,000 KM on my Vehicle. I seem to average 16L/100KMS which is approx 12MPG in the city, but I've noticed while Cruising on the Freeways/HWY's my MDS is kicking in more frequently and I'm getting 9-11L/100 KM which is approx 22-25 MPG While driving 100-110 KMH (60-70 MPH). When travelling 70-80KMH (45-50MPG) on a flat rd, I'm getting 25-28 MPG. Point being I'm getting better MPG, but Likely due to breaking in the Engine.

engine break-in for sure..
i haven't even had a chance to change my oil yet (don't ask....long shytty story), and have gone (averaging) from 17-18l/kph to 10.5-13.5l/kph
it's like it hits the 8k and says "okay, we're good, do what u will"

btw, when i do finally get around to it i'll be using synthetic (hydro-treated, none of that solvent cut shyt)
24 litres sitting in my garage just waiting
