Default Max Tire/Wheel Size

I have a 2006 1500 with a leveling kit riding on the factory 20" wheels. I currently have a set of BF Goodrich AT 285/65R20 and they fit just fine. It is about time for that dreaded tire purchase and was toying with either just replacing what I have on their (those tires at that size are pretty pricey) or choosing aftermarket wheels with new tires in a more standard size where the tires are cheaper but the overall price is about the same. Also I would hate to lose the height I have with these current tires. I am not sure though how wide of a tire I can go with. Any thoughts? Thanks!

I think those tires and the size is perfect for your application. You could also do a 305/55/20 to give yourself some extra width. The only thing with that is you MAY have rubbing on full lock. So really it isnt a big deal since that would be in a parking lot only. I had the exact same setup on my 07 and now on my 11 Ram. So I have not had any problems. The tires are very good so I would say stick with them.

If you go and buy rims and tires, it would be more expensive then just buying a set of tires. Honestly you might save a couple hundred bucks every time you buy a set of tires. If you go and buy a set of rims just to down size your tires you might break even after buying 3 sets of tires. Only good thing is you would get a new set of rims and give the truck a different look. Also it depends on the look you like. I am a fan of bigger rims but thats me.

I agree with that. You can go to a 305 and an aftermarket wheel with a bit more negative offset to avoid the rub. 65 is a good tire height with what you have now.

Thanks for the help.....I will probably stick with my stock wheels and just replace the 285/65R20s. I love the height and size on them and would hate to give any of that up. Plus I really do like the stock wheels. Not its just a matter of finding the best deal on these tires!

Is there a way to search for old posts, I had posted some pictures awhile back but I cant find the thread and I dont have the pictures on this computer.

Oh wow that looks really good. What brand of leveling kit do you have? I'm trying to decide what to do to my 06 Sport, and I'm starting to think that a leveling kit is going to be the first thing in the works, and wear out the crappy street tires it has on it now!

To tell you the truth I do not remember which brand I have on there, its been a long time. However I do know that when I am ready for new shocks I will probably be putting a set of Bilstein 5100s on that will replace the coil spacers and still level the truck. From everything that I read they are a nice addition.
