Thumbs up Installed MyGig Lockpick today

I installed a Mygig Lockpick today. For those of you in the market for one, this is a pretty nifty little device. Completely plug and play, and very simple to install. They included plenty of extra wire; I was able to velcro mine inside the dash behind the steering wheel. If I ever need to remove it or update the firmware it will be easy to reach.

I also installed a front camera. That was slightly more complicated than the Lockpick but not bad. A couple of notes for those who are considering doing this.

1. If you have the factory backup camera you will need to run new power to it.
2. The installation instructions say that new power is only necessary if you want to view it when not in reverse. That may be technically true, but my front camera did not seem to work correctly until I ran power from the lockpick to the rear camera
3. In the instructions Lockpick advises to find the power to the rear camera and replace it with power from the lockpick. The instructions for that portion were incorrect. They say to test the wires and the one that only has power in reverse is the correct one, but my camera power was constantly on. It still interfered with my front camera; I assume because it wasn't being controlled by the Lockpick. BTW, my backup camera power was the red one. I'm never sure, but in this case convention prevailed.

Anyway, I am stoked for this mod. It is the first big one for the new truck.

Sounds like a great mod. I have the Lockpick for mine, but haven't installed it yet...waiting for some nicer weather.
Which camera did you get for the front? How/where did you mount it? Do you have any pix?

I installed my lockpick without cutting any wires or running power to the rear camera and it works just fine. Just plugged it in. I can toggle the view of the rear camera on/off at any time while in drive. I did not install a front camera if that is the difference.

That makes sense, because the rear camera always has power to it. You should be able to see it in drive. Again, the lockpick instructions were incorrect on that point. That could also be why it interferes with the front camera, they are both on at the same time without the power coming through the lockpick. We just solved a mystery! Yay!

HEY BIGJIM1500, did you have a factory rear cam or did you install a rear cam. My instructions state that if you already have a factory rear cam then you must cut the factory rear wire because it gets its power via the backup lights which only come on in reverse. When in drive there would be no power. If you installed a rear cam on your truck there would not be a factory wire to cut. I have not cut my wire yet so I can not view my cam in drive. Other than that I really like my lockpick. Looking forward to hearing your answer because if you had a factory cam already on your truck and yours is working without any cutting of factory wires, then I may have something wrong with my lockpick

My factory backup cam had constant power, both in reverse and not.

Now that you have the lockpick, go get a Artec digital TV converter and a flat TV antenna and enjoy free local TV on your MyGig. If you want more details just ask or PM. I've done this to my Nitro R/T and Ram. The reason I suggest the Artec is the small size of the unit.

Do you get decent reception while moving, or just when sitting still?

Living here in Podunkville near the coast our transmitters are far away (due to hurricanes). Reception is good only when sitting still. When I'm in large cities, it works while driving.
