my dads friends been a ford man his whole life. f350 powerstroke for work and f150 4.6 for daily driving. He said the new powerstrokes have 2 many problems. He bought a cummins 6.7. Claims its the best thing in the world. he test drove a 5.0 f150 and ecoboost the other day. The ecoboost beats the 5.0, and it sounds like a ricer. the new f150s are like luxury cars. i dont even consider it a truck. he now also owns a 2012 laramie longhorn hemi for daily driving. once again he swares by it.

He also let me test drive the cummins. he has a performance chip and the smoke chip. i destroyed his whole block in a burnout

More torque and at lower RPM multip[le online acceleration tests show the ECOboost to beat the Dodge/Chevy/Toyota and Nissan. But thats racing related. And yeah - the better gas is nice too. Also having the turbo opens the door to hp gains a little easier. As someone else stated, less towing capacity is an issue. For me it was the suspension that sold the RAM, not the MOTOR. So nice to have an Urban Assault Vehicle that is a truck & rides like a large SUV.

just a new guy here but when i hear the word boost in the same sentence as a engine the first thiong that pops into mmy mind is increased heat plus nwe are talking about towing, that means more heat, just my two cents

imho, what james is saying, ecoboost longevity is questionable.

This thread must be setting some kind of forum record. Almost 35,000 views and 344 posts and counting. When you consider the topic, it is still civilized to boot!

this is funny, this thread will last until chrysler puts a turbo on the pentastar, then we will be able compare that to the ecoboost.

I considered the Eco-Boost but have my doubts about tubos and longevity. Especially with gas motors. I love the LS3 in my wifes Camaro but think that GM's interior is lacking to say the least (the Denali is comparable but WAY more expensive.). The Eco-Boost and expensive overhead cam V8's of the fords didn't do it for me either. The Longhorn interior and pushrod HEMI won me over in the end. Maybe the 15,000 trouble free miles I put on my old 180,000 mile '96 1500 last year had something to do with it too!

Jut my opinion I love my Ram and it does everything i need it to do and for a comparable equipped ego boost it would have cost me about 4K more.

The Eco Boost is an impressive piece of engine technology. IMHO. But when you drive a Ford with the 6.2 (which is VERY comparable to the 5.7 HEMI) and then drive the Eco Boost....purists will agree with me, the 6.2 beats EB. But for the whole package..decent gas milage with the added advantage of extremely good usable power...the EB's beats the 6.2. FWIW, even though its Ford's old, outgoing engine tech I loved the 6.2 as much as I do the 5.7 HEMI.
When I was test driving, I just found it very hard to accept having a V6 in a truck. For all the testing theyve done on the EB, I'm still worried about the longevity. Only time will tell and I would never be a test mule.
NOPE, I'd rather have the added piece of mind having a big V-8 handling all of my truck needs.

Despite my general dissapointment with my 2011 RAM 1500, the one spectacular bright spot has been the HEMI. With the fuel saver technology, that acually works, and the power, its just a great truck engine and very hard to beat. It kicks the crap out of all Ford 5.4's that I've had in the past...the only engine I've found to be close is the Ford 6.2.
