Default 4 Wheel Drive Issue

I'm wondering, I was in alittle bit of swampy area yesterday that didn't look all that bad but couldnt get through in 2 wheel drive. I was sitting still and attmepted to put it in 4 HI I guess it wasnt locked in right away and I got a loud bang when I tried to move, as soon as that happend my SERVICE 4WD light flashed a few times and then went off. Now when I attempt to put it in 4WD my 4HI light just blinks but feels like it is engaged, then when I change to 4LO my 4LO light blinks and my 4HI light is steady and 4 LO feels as if that is engaged also. I took it to my mechanic but he cant find any codes for the 4WD. Has anyone had this issue before and what is the remedy to this problem. THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP AND LOOK FORWARD TO YOUR RESPONSES!

I just took it aorund the block a few times, I attempted to shift into 4HI at a slow speed and standing still the light just blinks, then while moving and sitting still I shift from 4HI to 4LO and then the 4HI light is steady and the 4LO light jsut blinks. When I go to turn you can tell its grabbing tight and doesnt turn smoothly, which I would say is obvious for any truck in 4WD, I dont want to go getting it stuck somewhere to see if they are both working.

Try shifting into 4 low by putting the trans in neutral while at a walking speed or slower and then turning the shift knob to 4 low.

Gave that a shot and didnt work either. When I turn the knob I can hear something in the front sort of sounds like an actuator engaging or something of that nature but no steady light. Also when I start the truck my Service 4WD light blinks 3 times before going off. . .

Sounds like it's time to have the truck hooked up to a scan tool and see what codes are stored in the transfer case module.
